The Emory Cinematheque Series Announces MOVIE MAGIC Screenings

The Emory Cinematheque Series presents "Movie Magic: Special and Visual Effects from 1896 to Now" for its free, 35 mm film screenings this fall. Beginning Aug. 29 with Martin Scorsese's 'Hugo,' the screenings are held each Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Emory's White Hall 208. A special Oct. 3 screening will be held at the Plaza Theatre.

Today, July 24th, award-winning keyboardist/composer/author Kevin Toney releases an inspired project that blends traditional acoustic jazz trio music with the compositional expanse of classical movements. Titled New American Suite, the album introduces the artist's dynamic new group, The Kevin Toney 3 (a.k.a. "KT3" featuring Kevin Toney on piano, Michael Bradford on bass and Chris Coleman on drums).

The Summer Season at the Finborough Theatre continues with rediscoveries of EVENTS WHILE GUARDING THE BOFORS GUN and MERRIE ENGLAND. Commemorating the tenth anniversary of the death of playwright John McGrath, and unseen in a professional production in London since 1966, John McGrath's Events While Guarding The Bofors Gun opens at the multi-award-winning Finborough Theatre for a limited four-week season from Tuesday, 22 May 2012 directed by Robert Hastie. Merrie England plays at the Finborough Theatre for a limited run of nine Sunday and Monday evening performances and Tuesday matinees, opening tonight, 27 May 2012.

XS Exhibit At Metropolitan Museum Closes Today, April 15

More than 50 works of art of diminutive size by 30 American and European artists working in a variety of media and techniques comprise the installation XS at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. With a title borrowed from the XS size label (for 'extra small') found in women's garments, the installation includes rarely displayed works from the Museum's collection that are usually kept in storage due to their tiny size. The installation, which challenges the adage "bigger is better," is on view in the Lila Acheson Wallace Wing through April 15, 2012.

Crafty con-man Harold Hill brings mischief and the magic of music to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater this spring in Meredith Willson's The Music Man. This five-time Tony Award-winning musical is directed by Artistic Director Molly Smith, whose cultural dynamism made Oklahoma! a record-breaking audience favorite last season. With choreography by Parker Esse and music direction by Lawrence Goldberg, The Music Man runs May 11-July 22, 2012 in the Fichandler Stage, with all performances in May already sold out.

O'Malley's latest work Wilcox's Shot, a study of one of Hawaiian history's most interesting figures, on Thursday, Friday & Saturdays at 8 p.m on March 29, 30, 31 and April 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28; and Sundays at 2 p.m. on April 1, 15, 22, 29, 2012 (no show on April 8, due to Easter).

After ten years in preparation, St. Malachy's-The Actors' Chapel today named its new non-denominational day-evening child care center dedicated to the children of entertainment industry professionals in honor of the legendary Bob and Dolores Hope, according to an announcement from Rev. Fr. Richard D. Baker, pastor of St. Malachy's.

Volunteers of America (VOA), one of the nation's oldest and most effective human services organizations in the nation, will launch their 109th Annual Sidewalk Santa ® Campaign. Money collected will go to their Holiday Food Voucher program. The traditional launch for the program will be the annual Sidewalk Santa® parade on Friday, November 25, the morning after Thanksgiving. More than 50 fully-suited Sidewalk Santas® will march on Fifth Avenue, spreading holiday cheer and reminding us to remember our neighbors in need during the holiday season. In preparation, Sidewalk Santa® School took place at VOA Headquarters on the Upper West Side yesterday, November 17. SPIDER-MAN star Patrick Page was there for the special event, and you can check out photos of him in action below!
