Alexandre Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent paintings by Lois Dodd that focus on the motif of shadows. For over fifty years Dodd has painted her immediate everyday surroundings at the places she has chosen to live and work - the Lower East Side, rural Mid-Coast Maine, and the Delaware Water Gap. This show will include thirty-five paintings, both small-scale panel pieces and larger-scaled works on linen, completed during the past seven years in which shadows and their semi-abstract patterns are a dominant element in the compositions. Featured will be two new paintings in which the subject is Dodd's own shadow on the grass, painting with an easel and artist's materials, on a bright summer day, and two variant versions of a newly completed intaglio print Night House (2010).

The production, directed by William Brown, runs January 25-March 20, 2011, at Writers' Theatre, 325 Tudor Court in Glencoe. The press performance is on Thursday, February 3, 2011, at 7:30 p.m.

The original musical was conceived and directed by Michael Halberstam, adapted by Austin Pendleton with music by Joshua Schmidt and lyrics by Jan Tranen. The Lincoln Center production will be directed by Halberstam. Performances begin on Thursday, April 7, 2011 and opens on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 West 65 Street, New York City).

In the late 1960s she turned her eyes out a West window, over a nineteenth century cemetery to the buildings and skyline beyond, and began to paint the view. 'Second Street Paintings' will present this series of ten paintings from 1967 - 1970 that range in size from 8 x 10 to 45 x 30 inches. Also included will be three recent paintings depicting the same view from 2006 -2009.
