Numi Opera completes its inaugural season with its second productiona?"Erich Korngold's first opera Der Ring Des Polykrates. which he composed in 1914. Directed by Numi Opera Executive Director Gail R. Gordon and conducted by Francesco Milioto, the rarely performed opera will have two performances on Thursday, December 19 at 7:30pm and Sunday, December 22 at 7:30pm at Zipper Hall at the Colburn School, located at 200 South Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles.

Open Fist Theatre Company presents the world premiere of Neil Simon's Musical Fools, an adaptation of the Simon play Fools, with book and lyrics by Neil Simon and music and lyrics by Phil Swann and Ron West (deLEARious, The People Vs Friar Laurence). West also directs, with music direction by Jan Roper and choreography by Louisa Kendrick Burton. Neil Simon's Musical Fools opens Oct. 12 at Atwater Village Theatre, where performances will continue through Nov. 17; pay-what-you-want previews begin Oct. 4.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale announced today that the Abbott L. Brown Foundation (ALBF) has awarded a challenge grant to support the organization's mission and programs. The ALBF will match up to a total of $100,000 funded contributions to the newly formed Leadership Circle, founded by Abbott L. Brown and Jerrie Paula Ortega-Brown.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic ushers in its 2019/20 season with three free neighborhood concerts across Los Angeles County this September: The Luckman Fine Arts Complex at Cal State LA on September 26; the Vic Lopez Auditorium, Whittier High School on September 27; and the Flo Hyman Auditorium, Morningside High School in Inglewood on September 28. The concerts will feature the LA Phil, led by Associate Conductor Paolo Bortolameolli, performing works by Richard Wagner, Duke Ellington, Aldemaro Romero, and Leonard Bernstein, plus LA Phil-commissioned works by Gabriela Ortiz and Paul Desenne.

Acclaimed singer, songwriter and musician Ruston Kelly debuts a new cover of The Carter Family's “Weeping Willow” today.  Recorded at the Carter's own family home in Virginia, Kelly's rendition is released in honor of the song's 92nd anniversary (originally released August 2, 1927 under the title “Bury Me Under The Weeping Willow”).

The Edinburgh International Festival launches this week for its 73rd edition, bringing the best of theatre, music and dance from across the world to Scotland's capital. The Festival will once again be a meeting place for the world's creatives as 2,800 artists arrive from 41 countries including Australia, Nigeria, Canada, Belgium, China, Mali, Holland, South Africa, France, Germany and India as well as 800 artists from Scotland. Following solo and concerto performances at Queens College's Karol Rathaus Festival last month, Polish-Canadian pianist Daniel Wnukowski (vnoo-koff'-skee) further champions the music of this long-neglected Galician-Jewish composer with the launch of a recording cycle of Karol Rathaus's complete works for solo piano. The project, spanning four volumes on Toccata Classics, is an extension of Mr. Wnukowski's advocacy for music suppressed by the Nazi regime, and all of the works on Volume 1 appear on recording for the first time.
