Pure Joy turned into Grief and Terror then finally Relief coursed through me. For 90 minutes, I was completely immersed in the experience that is AMPARO. And that is exactly what AMPARO is; a complete theatrical experience. As I am writing this I can still feel all the emotions I went through when I first participated in AMPARO. I say participated because you don't watch AMPARO, you live it. I also haven't stopped talking about it to anyone who will listen and even now when I describe the experience as I am urging family and friends to GO SEE IT, I get goosebumps. I fear that I won't do the experience justice with my mere words but I will do my best.

On Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 8 p.m., the national premiere of 'La Nona Kanta: The Remarkable Life of Flory Jagoda' will take place at Temple Beth Hillel, 20 Baker Lane in South Windsor, Conn. The live concert and multi-media presentation celebrate the life and work of Flory Altarac Jagoda, the National Heritage Award-winning, Bosnian-born Sephardic singer and composer who is known worldwide as the Keeper of the Flame of Sephardic and Ladino music. The event is performed by Trio Sefardi, a Northern Virginia-based ensemble of musicians who each played with Flory, now age 95, for many years.

Today's subject Laura Giannarelli has been living her theatre life for many years now on both sides of the footlights. As a performer she just completed a star turn in Gulf View Drive at Washington Stage Guild (WSG), the company she helped found back in 1986. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival has announced the award winners for its seventh annual event which featured a lineup of screenings, premieres, panels and virtual reality held in honor of acclaimed novelist Philip K. Dick. The festival was held as a bi-coastal gathering in New York and California with twelve films recognized for their distinctive filmmaking styles and quality storytelling.

The 18th annual Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, today announced its 2019 lineup of 63 diverse and engaging short films in competition, including 31 world premieres. This year's shorts program includes a cross-section of international and U.S. filmmakers, curated from a record 5131 submissions with female filmmakers directing 45% of the selections. The short films will be presented in 11 distinct competition programs, consisting of six narrative, four documentary, and one animation program. There will also be special screening programs for the annual Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival and the debut of shorts from The Queen Collective, a program aimed at accelerating gender and racial equality behind the camera. The 2019 shorts lineup is programmed by Sharon Badal and Ben Thompson. The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 24 - May 5.

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the nation's premier orchestra dedicated exclusively to commissioning, performing, and recording new orchestral music, continues the festivities for John Harbison's 80th year with a matinee concert dedicated to the distinguished Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer. Led by Artistic Director and Conductor Gil Rose, BMOP celebrates Harbison in a program featuring Harbison's Remembering Gatsby (Foxtrot for Orchestra), Concerto for Viola and Orchestra, and celebrated soprano soloist Dawn Upshaw singing his Milosz Songs and his Symphony No. 6.

Richard Wright's iconic novel, Native Son,  streamlined into a blazing 90 minute adaptation by actor/playwright Nambi E. Kelley, will run in repertory with Les Deux Noirs: Notes on Notes of A Native Son, inspired by James Baldwin's blistening critique of Wright's controversial work. Award-winning director and playwright Psalmayene 24's stages the innovative take on Wright's masterpiece while authoring a modern reimagining of Wright's real-life meeting with Baldwin in 1953 Paris.

One of Japan's most celebrated playwrights, Hashida Sugako, has moved countless audiences with such popular works as Oshin, Wataru Seken wa oni Bakari and Akai Giwaku. Her play Marriage, originally a 1982 television drama and adapted for the stage the following year, traces the path of women's self-determination and how they overcome fate. Marriage, which has appeared on the Chinese-language stage many times and touched theatregoers' hearts far and wide, concerns five women living under one roof, connected by familial bonds and mutual promises in facing adversity. Yet everything changes when love enters into the picture. How do they free themselves from their shackles, pursuing happiness without any regret? The play's 2015 HKRep premiere production received 11 nominations at the Hong Kong Drama Awards, winning Best Actress (Tragedy/Drama), Best Set Design, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design and Top Ten Popular Productions. Translated by Yu Daiqin and directed by Fong Chun Kit, this production features Mercy Wong, Man Shui Hing, Kiki Cheung, ManMan Kwok, Ip Ka Yan, Chris Sun, Leung Tin Chak, Yuen Wai Sun, Chow Chi Fai and Eddy Au Yeung.
