Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company and Jujamcyn Theaters will present the fourth annual August Wilson Monologue Competition National finals Monday, May 3 at Broadway's August Wilson Theatre (245 W. 52nd Street). The finals will feature performances of monologues from August Wilson's Century Cycle by twelve regional finalists from Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Chicago and New York.

The Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs has announced the nominees for the 2010 24th Annual MAC Awards. The ceremony honoring the nominees, will take place on May 4, 2010 at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, and will be hosted by Sharon McNight. Leslie Uggams will be honored for Lifetime Achievement, with Board of Directors Awards being presented to Peter Leavy and playbill.com. The event will begin at 7:30pm. Doors open at 6:00pm. Lennie Watts will direct the evening, with Tracy Stark musical directing.

Two-time Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington, who is set to appear in August Wilson's FENCES this spring, expressed some lingering regret in turning down the Brad Pitt role in the 1995 thriller SEVEN. Washington told Entertainment Weekly, 'The only film that was sort of dark that I'd turned down was SEVEN. They offered me the Brad Pitt part, but I was like, 'This is so dark & evil.' Then when I saw the movie, I was like, 'Oh Shoot.'

The production will also star Tony Award-winner and Academy Award-nominee Viola Davis. FENCES, directed by Kenny Leon, will open on Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street). The strictly limited 14 week engagement will begin previews on April 14.

Not Black and White is a three month season of plays to be presented by the Tricycle Theatre examining life and social issues in 21st Century London from the perspective of three leading black contemporary playwrights. Roy Williams, Kwame Kwei-Armah and Bola Agbaje will tackle the prison system, the mayoralty and immigration respectively in the Not Black and White season which runs from 8 October to 19 December 2009.

Brian Stokes Mitchell visited The Today Show to sing a selection from his new CD/DVD 'Ring Christmas Bells.' Mitchell also discussed his 'Lights on Broadway With brian Stokes Mitchell' children's book, a benefit for The Actors Fund. Each book comes with a CD single of 'I was Here.'
