Acclaimed harpsichordist Jeannette Sorrell, founder and music director of Cleveland's Apollo's Fire makes her Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra debut when she conducts concertos by Vivaldi, Bach and Boccherini at LACO's "Baroque Conversations" series on Thursday, February 6, 2014, 7 pm, at Zipper Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Sorrell, who "forges a vibrant, life-affirming approach to the re-making of early music," according to BBC Music Magazine, leads Principal Cello Andrew Shulman, Cello Trevor Handy, Principal Violin II Josefina Vergara and Flute Sandy Hughes in Vivaldi's Concerto grosso in B minor (arr. Sorrell) after Sonata in B minor, Op. 1, No. 12, RV 63 ("La Follia"), and Concerto in G minor for Two Cellos, RV 531; Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D major, BWV 1050; and Boccherini's "Fandango" (arr. Sorrell) after Guitar Quintet No. 4 in D major, G. 448.

The February broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begin with Music Director Alan Gilbert leading the Philharmonic in Beethoven's Fidelio Overture and Symphony No. 1; Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1, with Lisa Batiashvili as soloist; and Gershwin's An American in Paris. The January broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begin with an all-American New Year's Eve Concert conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert with Thomas Hampson as soloist. The program, recorded on New Year's Eve in 2009, includes Copland's Suite from Appalachian Spring and Old American Songs (selections), in addition to selections from Broadway musicals and Gershwin's An American in Paris. A pair of tickets to the Broadway transfer of 'The Bridges of Madison County,' a new musical by the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning team of Marsha Norman ('The Secret Garden') and Jason Robert Brown ('The Last Five Years'), opening at Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on Thursday, February 20, will be up for bid--via a silent auction--tonight at New York-based advertising and media agencies' fundraiser for typhoon Haiyan victims at the International Center of Photography (43rd Street and Sixth Avenue) from 7 to 10:30 p.m.

As Anna drowns herself in the sensuality of food and sex, Carl becomes involved in a wild Third Mannish espionage scheme to find a cure for his sister. But the cracks in the story start to widen and soon the audience becomes aware that they are engaged in Anna's fantasy attempt at keeping her brother's spirit alive when she cannot save his life.

Profiles Theatre announces that actor Paul Dillon returns to the role he originated in the 1992 world premiere of Hellcab by Will Kern for Profiles' holiday season revival of their hit production. Once again, Profiles Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox returns to direct a cast of 34 with Dillon joining the cast as the beleaguered cab driver and ensemble member Eric Burgher assistant directing. Profiles' production runs at The Main Stage, 4139 N. Broadway, tonight, November 8, 2013 - January 12, 2014. Please note new opening date: Wednesday, November 13, at 8:00 pm.

Syfy's newest original scripted series Helix will launch Friday, January 10 at 10PM (ET/PT). Repeats of the premiere will air continuously on Syfy all-day Saturday, January 11 until 10PM (ET/PT).

Bucks County Playhouse has announced today that the Playhouse has selected Alexander Fraser and Robyn Goodman to assume the leadership roles of Producing Director and Executive Producer, respectively. They will be replacing outgoing Producing Director Jed Bernstein, who announced earlier this year he will be joining Lincoln Center For The Performing Arts as its next President. Fraser and Goodman will begin their duties at the Playhouse in January of 2014.

Goodman Theatre announces the complete line-up for its 2013 New Stages festival, this year celebrating Latino playwrights. Three staged readings-The Rooster Room by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes, Feathers and Teeth by Charise Castro Smith and Another Word for Beauty by Jose Rivera-complement the previously-announced two fully-staged workshop productions, The Upstairs Concierge by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz and The Solid Sand Below by former Goodman Theatre Playwrights Unit member Martin Zimmerman.

Beginning with the 2013-14 season, the New York Philharmonic's Insights Series - in which artists and experts will explore some of the season's themes and concerts - will now be free, and take place at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center. This season's events will include discussions with Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow during his farewell season (TODAY, October 23); composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and violinist Leila Josefowicz (October 28), who will discuss Mr. Salonen's Violin Concerto, written for Ms. Josefowicz (which they will perform with the Philharmonic in its New York Concert Premiere, October 30-November 5); Music Director Alan Gilbert and Executive Director Matthew VanBesien on the state of the Philharmonic (March 3, 2014); The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman (May 20, 2014), who will talk about Beethoven's piano concertos (which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014); and discussions relating to the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the details of which will be announced at a later date. All Insights Series events begin at 7:30 p.m.

Florida Repertory Theatre has announced the opening of the gripping drama, Collected Stories, a Tony-Winning play from Donald Margulies, the Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author of last season's ArtStage hit, Time Stands Still.

Let's hear it for the ladies of horror: those evil, tormented women, who have been inhabited by the devil or perhaps chased by a crazed lunatic wielding a deadly chainsaw. Fear not, your nightmares have been answered as EPIX and FEARnet have partnered to present 'Maidens of Mayhem,' a week-long festival of horror films featuring possessed ladies and the men/women and other entities who love them - or want to kill them. The festival begins on FEARnet today, October 14th and moves to EPIX on Thursday, October 17th with a special presentation of the original Carrie (1976) starring Sissy Spacek on the eve of the latest film adaptation of the Stephen King novel, starring Chlo? Grace-Moretz and Julianne Moore. Following the film, EPIX will present a World Premiere sneak peek at the new movie (see full schedule below).
