Beginning with the 2013-14 season, the New York Philharmonic's Insights Series - in which artists and experts will explore some of the season's themes and concerts - will now be free, and take place at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center. This season's events will include discussions with Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow during his farewell season (TODAY, October 23); composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and violinist Leila Josefowicz (October 28), who will discuss Mr. Salonen's Violin Concerto, written for Ms. Josefowicz (which they will perform with the Philharmonic in its New York Concert Premiere, October 30-November 5); Music Director Alan Gilbert and Executive Director Matthew VanBesien on the state of the Philharmonic (March 3, 2014); The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman (May 20, 2014), who will talk about Beethoven's piano concertos (which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014); and discussions relating to the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the details of which will be announced at a later date. All Insights Series events begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Central PA music community comes together today, October 7 to celebrate the music and legacy of Levon Helm; drummer, singer, actor, and concert innovator whose voice and larger than life personality influenced three generations. Helm - who played a variety of places here in Lancaster ---died following a long battle with cancer in April 2012 at age 71.

Well, it all comes down to this. Four months of auditions, partnerships, All-Stars, and voting will culminate in tonight's Season 10 Finale of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. Tonight Mary Murphy, Cat Deeley, Nigel Lyhgoe, and an undoubtedly eclectic cast of assembled characters will announce 'America's Favorite Dancers!' This year, contemporary dancers Jasmine Harper and Amy Yakima are vying for the women's title, and hip hopper Fik-shun is hoping beyond hope that he can pull the biggest upset since the US Hockey Team beat Russia in the 1980 Winter Olympics and steal the crown from tap dancer Aaron Turner.

Composer/pianist Vijay Iyer and master percussionist Cyro Baptista are the latest Guiding Artists to join the Creative Music Studio's 40th Anniversary workshop, October 7 - 11, at the well-appointed Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY. In addition to Vijay and Cyro, the four-day workshop will feature renowned musicians and educators, including Peter Apfelbaum, Tony Malaby, Jason Hwang, Kirk Knuffke, Kenny Wessel, Steve Gorn, Mark Helias and others. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced its 2013-2014 theater season.
