Erik Lee Preminger, the son of legendary burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee (whose 1957 memoirs inspired the classic musical GYPSY) and film director Otto Preminger, will appear in-person at Naples's Theatrezone on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 to present his one-man show about his famous mother (featuring rare home movies, television shows, newsreel footage, a question-and-answer session, and more). American Symphony Orchestra Goes 'Beyond Beethoven' at Carnegie Hall with Pianist Lucas Debargue

American Symphony Orchestra will pay tribute to the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth with a concert that investigates how his music inspired others on Friday January 31, 8 pm at Carnegie Hall. From Liszt's fantasia on the 'Turkish March' to Spohr's Beethovenesque scherzo and Reger's variations on a bagatelle theme by Beethoven, the program also celebrates the 100th anniversary of an often-overlooked 20th-century master, Galina Ustvolskaya. Her Piano Concerto is considered her first composition and demands the listener's ear with a pounding rhythmic motif that is repeated by the piano until the closing chord.

Music Director Jaap van Zweden will conduct the World Premiere of 2019 Pulitzer Prize winner Ellen Reid's When the World as You've Known It Doesn't Exist - featuring sopranos Eliza Bagg (Philharmonic subscription debut), Martha Cluver (debut), and Estelí Gomez - commissioned by the Philharmonic as part of Project 19, marking the centennial of the 19th Amendment through commissions by 19 women composers; soprano Renée Fleming in Björk's Virus and All Is Full of Love as well as Dark Harbor XXXV and Dark Harbor XI from Anders Hillborg's The Strand Settings; and Bruckner's Symphony No. 4. The program will take place Thursday, February 20, 2020, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, February 21 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, February 22 at 8:00 p.m.
