As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of President Johnson's signing of the Voting Rights Act on August 6, 1965, JFK & LBJ: A Time for Greatness airing nationally,Tuesday, August 4, 2015

In an unprecedented collaboration, the Louis Armstrong House Museum in New York City and the Louisiana State Museum in New Orleans have partnered on the exhibit: Satchmo: His Life in New Orleans to tell the story of Louis Armstrong's complex relationship with his hometown. The exhibit will coincide with the 100th anniversary of his first professional gig at Henry Ponce's in New Orleans in 1915. 

In this taut 2013 theatrical adaptation of Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela's award winning-book, the apartheid regime's most notorious assassin and head of its death squad, Eugene de Kock (played by Matthew Marsh), sits opposite psychologist Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela (played Noma Dumezweni) in Pretoria Central Prison in 1997. Gobodo-Madikizela is a member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission determined to understand his actions. She questions de Kock, who is sentenced to two life terms plus 212 years for crimes against humanity, murder, conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, assault, kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, and fraud.

The complete cast and creative team have been announced for The Old Globe production of William Shakespeare's delightful and romantic Twelfth Night. Rebecca Taichman, whose production of the time-traveling Time and the Conways fascinated audiences last April, is back to direct the first show of the 2015 Summer Shakespeare Festival. The Old Globe engagement will begin performances on June 21 and run through July 26, 2015, with opening night on Saturday, June 27 at 8:00 p.m., in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre.

It's been 50 years since Neil Simon wrote The Odd Couple, perhaps the most famous of his early plays. March, 1965. I was a freshman in college, and little did I know that one day I would play Felix Unger in a local production onstage. Needless to say, I was certainly smitten with the crazed character and his neurotic mannerisms and with Simon's terribly funny comedic lines, whenever I watched the film with Jack Lemmon and the TV series with Tony Randall. Not so easy to essay...this character - as I found out first hand - for this play with all its laugh.a.minute jokes is really a very serious drama about the frailty of relationships and how we suffer through them. Now onstage in a wonderfully grounded and real portrait, The Odd Couple still holds up; the Sierra Madre Playhouse production, under the meticulous direction of Alan Brooks, does the classic proud.

American icon Loretta Lynn, who has delighted audiences for over five decades with her distinctive fusion of twang, grit and energy, makes a rare Omaha concert appearance at the Holland Performing Arts Center on Friday, August 7, at 8:00 p.m.

New York City Opera was one of the great artistic treasures of New York. It was famously dubbed 'The People's Opera' by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia at its founding in 1943 and throughout its nearly 70 year history, the NYCO helped launch the careers of many of the world's greatest opera stars including Beverly Sills, Sherrill Milnes, Placido Domingo, Maralin Niska, Carol Vaness, Jose Carreras, Shirley Verrett, Tatiana Troyanos, Jerry Hadley, Catherine Malfitano, Samuel Ramey. SISTAS: The Musical, the joyful Off-Broadway production recently celebrated its three year anniversary at St. Luke's Theatre. The cast, crew, and creative team gathered after the November 8 performance to celebrate with audience members and to kick off the show's fourth season.

The Helpmann Awards, which has recognised the achievements in live performance in Australia since 2001, is the Australian industry's equivalent of the Tony Awards and the Olivier Awards.
