From May 28 to June 7, 2014, the New York Philharmonic will present the inaugural NY PHIL BIENNIAL, a kaleidoscopic exploration of today's music by a wide range of contemporary and modern composers that will showcase an array of curatorial voices through concerts presented with partners in venues both on and off the Lincoln Center campus.

Walnut Street Theatre concludes its landmark 204th season with an all-new production of Broadway and Hollywood's smash-hit, GREASE. Directed by Bruce Lumpkin, with choreography by Michelle Gaudette, this musical extravaganza is currently in previews and opens on May 22nd, running through July 14th on the WST Mainstage. The season opens with the Chicago Premiere of Duke Ellington's Queenie Pie, February 15 - 23, 2014. In the spring, COT presents a double-bill of Carl Orff's Die Kluge and Viktor Ullmann's Der Kaiser von Atlantis, May 31 - June 8, 2014. The season wraps in the fall with the Chicago Premiere of Ernest Bloch's Macbeth, September 13 - 21, 2014. Mitisek also comments "We increased our subscriber family by 18.5% in 2013. COT is THE place for adventure and discovery. We invite our audience on a journey into the good and evil of ambition."

Les Ballet Trockadero De Monte Carlo performed at New Jersey Performing Arts Center for one show only on Sunday, April 7th. The audience was delighted with the company's talents and antics.

Now, Disney Theatrical Productions has confirmed that Aladdin, a new musical based on the Academy Award winning animated film, will play its pre-Broadway engagement at Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre(formerly the Canon) November 13, 2013 to January 12, 2014 and will open at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre in 2014. The show will feature music by Alan Menken; lyrics by the late Howard Ashman, Tim Rice and Chad Beguelin with a book by Beguelin. Casey Nicholaw will direct and choreograph.

I don't know about other cabaret journalists, but I have to believe that a reviewer feels the biggest buzz (aside from when composing a really well-crafted show analysis) when he or she has been fortunate enough to observe a young performer's ascent into stardom. That's the way I felt last Wednesday night at the Metropolitan Room as I was watching Carole J. Bufford's new show, Body & Soul.

During her recent two-night run at the Metropolitan Room (July 11, 12), Los Angeles-based nightclub singer and actress Robyn Spangler gingerly walked the tribute show tightrope and made it to the other side intact. Her show 'Why I Love Linda Ronstadt' - which earned her a 2011 BroadwayWorld.com honor as L.A.'s 'Best Female Cabaret Artist - was an honest and heartfelt homage to her singing heroine. Her Ronstadt show hit almost all the right tribute notes, with solid arrangements from her Musical Director/Pianist Todd Schroeder (who also provided nifty backup vocals) that were reverential without being replications.

The creative team behind last summer's sold-out, acclaimed Southwark Playhouse musical, Parade - long-listed for The Ned Sherrin Award for Best Musical in the 2011 Evening Standard Awards - are returning to the venue for a major revival of the Jerry Herman/Michael Stewart Hollywood musical, Mack and Mabel. The show runs tonight, July 5 - August 25.
