On the heels of last night's triumphant first preview performance, producers of Broadway's Forever Tango have announced that 'Dancing with the Stars' duo Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy will extend their run for an additional two weeks. Originally scheduled to appear for three weeks only, the couple will now perform in the internationally acclaimed entertainment phenomenon through Sunday, August 11, 2013. Special guest vocalist and five-time Grammy Award-winner, Gilberto Santa Rosa, will appear through July 28, 2013 as previously announced. Forever Tango begins performances tomorrow, Tuesday, July 9, 2014 at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 W 48thStreet).

Five-time Grammy Award-winner Gilberto Santa Rosa will star as the first special guest star for the first three weeks of the engagement. Future vocalist casting will be announced at a later date. Tickets will go on sale to the general public starting Tuesday, May 28, 2013.

When Jerry Herman was pegged by producer Gerard Oestreicher to write the score for a Broadway musical set in the fledgling State of Israel, he was a 28-year-old composer/lyricist mostly known for writing clever lyrics and snazzy tunes for Greenwich Village topical reviews like Nightcap and Parade.  But now, instead of writing for hip, downtown performers like Charles Nelson Reilly and Dody Goodman, he'd be penning a romantic score for opera stars Mimi Benzell and Robert Weede, with special comic relief material for Yiddish Theatre legend Molly Picon.
