FOREVER TANGO With Anna Trebunskaya Comes to the Van Wezel, 2/9

Luis Bravo's FOREVER TANGO, featuring Dancing with the Stars favorite Anna Trebunskaya, is the internationally celebrated entertainment event that has played to great acclaim throughout the world and on Broadway. FOREVER TANGO will beguile and ignite the Van Wezel audience Thurs. Feb 9^th @ 8 PM.

The tango inhabits a world where everything can be said with the flick of a leg, the tug of a hand, the tap of a foot and the arch of an eyebrow.  Created and directed by Luis Bravo, FOREVER TANGO was voted Best Touring Musical by Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle in San Francisco , was awarded the coveted Simpatia Prize at the 1996 Spoleto Festival in Italy, and opened on Broadway in 1997, where it played for 14 months. FOREVER TANGO has since been back to on Broadway, on two separate occasions.  The New York Times calls FOREVER TANGO, "A must-see!"  And USA Today says, "Forever Tango shows that the style is more than steamy – it's smart, even funny … a sensuous, seductive, pleasure." 

The show features world-class tango dancers, a vocalist and an on-stage orchestra (including the instrument of the tango, the bandoneon) in an evening that celebrates the story of the birth of the tango in 19^th century Argentina where thousands of men, having abandoned a disintegrating Europe to emigrate to South America, found themselves in the crowded abattoirs (packing houses), the bars and street corners of the arrabales (outlying barrios) and in the enramadas (brothels).  The tango was born of this lonely and violent existence.  Originally shunned by Argentina society as indecent, the tango became an overnight craze in upper-class Paris when Argentine intellectuals taught it when traveling abroad.  The tango quickly spread across Europe and to America, and was eventually re-imported home to Argentina society, though not unchanged.  Born in the brothels and bordellos of Buenos Aires, the tango may be Argentina's best known export. 

A Russian native recognized for her Latin and Ballroom styles, Anna Trebunskaya was born to parents who were professional ballroom dancers. Anna started dancing at age six in the studio owned by her parents, entered her first dance competition at age seven and won, and was introduced to American viewers in Season Two of DWTS, when she paired with football great Jerry Rice to make the finals, and ultimately a second place finish. She made the finals again in Season 10, finishing second with Evan Lysacek. She is married to fellow DWTS pro Jonathan Roberts and her mother has designed and constructed all of her costumes. Don't miss the opportunity to see Ms. Trebunskaya in one of the most passionate performances of the season-Forever Tango!
