Irondale is proud to present the New York premiere of Sea of Common Catastrophe, a surreal multimedia theater work that grapples with complicity in the face of rapid urban change. Designed and directed by Jeff Becker, who leads a team of fellow New Orleans-based artists, Sea of Common Catastrophe follows three long-time residents of a tiny seaside town whose lives are uprooted when a compelling stranger arrives. Inspired by a passage from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novella Sea of Lost Time-where a town drowns on a Sunday afternoon but persists, submerged, in its daily life, as if the deluge had never occurred-Sea of Common Catastrophe uses spectacular lighting and video, live music, and an innovative two-story set to evoke a changing landscape of upscale living and chic restaurants that suddenly transforms into a magical sunken world.

Enjoying fifty years at the peak of the music industry, Justin Hayward's voice has been heard the world over, and now he will appear at the South Orange Performing Arts Center on August 19 at 7:30 p.m. He will perform many songs from his 2016 album All The Way, and the concert also features celebrated fingerstyle acoustic guitarist Mike Dawes.

Kate Linder has portrayed Esther Valentine on CBS' The Young and the Restless, the #1 rated soap opera, for 36 years. In 2008, Linder received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Linder was in the recent feature films Hysteria, Erased, Miss Meadows, Garry Marshall's Mother's Day and The Charnel House and in several upcoming feature films including Charlie Matthau's Book of Leah, Stereotypically You, Voice from the Stone and A Song for the Living. She has been the celebrity spokesperson for The ALS Association for over a decade since her late brother-in-law's initial diagnosis. She's a longtime board member for SAG-AFTRA and a former two-time Governor of the Television Academy.

ADG Film Society Celebrates 50th Anniversary of PLANET OF THE APES on June 24

Celebrating its 50th Anniversary as a science-fiction classic, Planet of the Apes will headline the next Art Directors Guild (ADG) Film Society's 2018 screening series at the Egyptian Theater on Sunday, June 24 at 5:30 pm. A conversation withPlanet of the Apes Oscar®-nominated Production Designer William J. Creber, ADG (The Poseidon Adventure, The Towering Inferno) will follow the movie exploring the making of the cult film and its timeless designs, moderated by Film Society Founder John Muto, ADG. The annual ADG Screening Series “Production Design: Designers on Design,” highlighting the work of renowned Production Designers and their creative collaborations, is in association with American Cinematheque and sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter.

The pre-celebratory events leading up to the 25th Anniversary of Life Ball kicked off on Thursday, May 31 in Vienna with the Swarovski Crystal of Hope award presentation to Oscar and Golden Globe winner Charlize Theron on behalf of the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. This year's Swarovski Crystal of Hope was presented by Helene von Damm in the name of the Swarovski Foundation. Federal Minister for EU, Art, Culture, and Media Gernot Blumel and Life Ball chairman and organizer Gery Keszler also participated in the presentation.

Schimmel Center To Present Anna Deavere Smith In Notes From The Field, 6/1 & Today

Schimmel Center will present Tony and Pulitzer Prize nominee Anna Deavere Smith's Obie Award-winning solo performance, Notes From the Field, for one weekend only on Friday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Today, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in preparation for a two week run at the Royal Court in London. The production is directed by Leonard Foglia and features original music composed and performed by bassist Marcus Shelby who joins Ms. Smith on stage.

The Presets are officially back, today releasing their highly anticipated new album HI VIZ. FLIGHT Opens This Week at the Long Beach Playhouse

In 2005, Charlayne Woodard wrote a play entitled Flight. Set in 1858, on a Georgia plantation, a young mother is suddenly sold, leaving behind her husband and their five-year-old son. Through a magical evening of storytelling, music and dance, their community shares the rich history that makes them so much more than slaves. Sharing this rich oral tradition not only comforts the father and son, but heals and strengthens the entire community; the audience has the privilege of going along for the ride.

Michael Christie Leads World Premiere Of AN AMERICAN SOLDIER With Opera Theatre Of Saint Louis

From Sunday, June 3 through Friday, June 22, 2018, conductor Michael Christie will lead the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in the world premiere performances of An American Soldier, the new two-act opera by Huang Ruo and Henry David Hwang, at the Loretto-Hilton Center (130 Edgar Road). Tenor Andrew Stenson (Danny Chen), mezzo-soprano Mika Shigematsu (Mother Chen), and soprano Kathleen Kim (Josephine Young) make debuts with OTSL and join bass-baritone Wayne Tigges (Sergeant Aaron Marcum) and director Matthew Ozawa for this production.

Oratorio Society Of New York Presents Two World Premieres, 5/7

World premieres of an oratorio about the Underground Railroad that sets narratives of slaves running for freedom and their lives, and a work that sets poems calling for peace in Farsi, Spanish, Hebrew, Arabic, and English: Sanctuary Road, music by Paul Moravec and text by Mark Campbell based upon the writings of William Still, a conductor for the Underground Railroad; and We Are One for chorus and orchestra by Behzad Ranjbaran, both completed within the last year, will be given their first performances by the Oratorio Society of New York (OSNY) led by Music Director Kent Tritle as the culminating concert of the OSNY's 145th season on Monday, May 7, 2018, at Carnegie Hall.

COLCOA French Film Festival to Honor Melanie Laurent + Announces the COLCOA Classics Line-Up

Today the Franco-American Cultural Fund have announced that Mélanie Laurent will be honored as their “Focus on a Filmmaker” at the COLCOA French Film Festival.  Additionally, they have announced the five films that comprise the “COLCOA Classic Series.” These selections will be presented as part of COLCOA's 22nd edition, which will run Monday, April 23 through Monday, April 30, with all screenings taking place at the Directors Guild of America.   All films in the COLCOA Classics are free to the public. The complete line-up including films and series competing for the COLCOA Awards 2018 will be announced on April 3rd.
