San Francisco Opera General Director Matthew Shilvock and Music Director Nicola Luisotti today announced plans for the 2017-18 repertory season. The Company's 95th season will open Friday, September 8 with a gala performance of Giacomo Puccini'sTurandot led by Maestro Luisotti and an international cast starring Martina Serafin, Maria Agresta and Brian Jagde.

Featuring Tony Award winner Daisy Eagan with The 5th Avenue Theatre Executive Producer and Artistic Director David Armstrong at the helm, the show will undergo continued revisions in Seattle as it makes its way to a Broadway revival.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that theatre, television and film director, producer and writer Jeffrey Hayden died peacefully after a year of cancer treatment on Saturday, December 24, 2016, at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by his loving family. He was 90 years old.

JK Rowling took to Twitter to respond to the plot hole in Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts where Queenie's mind-reading skills were questioned. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced its first major grant funding round of fiscal year 2017, which includes a $20,000 grant supporting a co-production of The Secret Garden, created in partnership between Seattle's The 5th Avenue Theatre and Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington D.C. The critically acclaimed production directed by 5th Avenue Theatre Executive Producer and Artistic Director David Armstrong, has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, and recently announced an extension through January 8 for its current presentation in D.C. The Secret Garden will excite audiences at home in the Emerald City April 14-May 6.

Join us for an evening celebrating the life and work of the late Judith Malina (June 4, 1926 - April 10, 2015), who was a regular participant and guest at many Segal Center evenings. Malina was a German-born American theatre and film actress, writer and director. In 1945, she became the student of the radical German political theatre director Erwin Piscator at The New School in New York. In 1947, with her husband and artistic partner Julian Beck (May 31, 1925 - September 14, 1985), Malina co-founded the highly influential The Living Theatre, a radical political theatre troupe that rose to prominence in New York City and Paris during the 1950s and 60s. Together they created legendary productions (The Brig, The Connection, Paradise Now, Antigone, Mysteries and Smaller Pieces, Frankenstein) until Beck's death.
