The Playwrights Realm, led by Katherine Kovner, Founding Artistic Director, and Roberta Pereira, Producing Director, celebrated its tenth anniversary with the annual Writers Block Party honoring Realm Board Member and award-winning playwright and actor, Anna Deavere Smith. The Writers Block Party took place on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at The Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse in the Samuel B. & David Rose Building, and was hosted by Lauren Patten (Fun Home, The Wolves). Schimmel Center will present Tony and Pulitzer Prize nominee Anna Deavere Smith's Obie Award-winning solo performance, Notes From the Field, for one weekend only on Friday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in preparation for a two week run at the Royal Court in London. The production is directed by Leonard Foglia and features original music composed and performed by bassist Marcus Shelby who joins Ms. Smith on stage.

n the mid-90's Trustus Theatre presented a unique entertainment option: a one-woman show which tackled issues of personal identity and race through an expose' of almost 30 characters during the Crown Heights riots; all played by Columbia favorite Jocelyn Sanders. Now, in its 25th Anniversary Season Trustus is bringing this blistering piece back to their intimate 50-seat Trustus Black Box Theatre for another inimitable night of Columbia theatre. Anna Deveare's Fires in the Mirror: Crown Heights, Brooklyn and Other Identities opens to the public in the Trustus Black Box on Thursday, March 11th at 7:30pm.
