Smuin kicks off its 24th season with a vibrant Dance Series 01 program, featuring the West Coast premiere of Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's transcendent piece Requiem for a Rose, which examines the differences between love and romance. Ochoa is an internationally acclaimed choreographer who both choreographs contemporary dance works and adapts her style for classical ballet companies. Also on the program is Michael Smuin's joyful tribute to Ol' Blue Eyes, Fly Me to the Moon. This blend of ballet and popular dance is the embodiment of the smooth and stylish melodies that have inspired generations, including Sinatra's renditions of "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "The Lady is a Tramp."

Premium television network EPIX®, an MGM company, today announced a roster of all-new original offerings to premiere this year: documentaries Danica and Foreman as well as comedy special Anjelah Johnson: Mahalo & Goodnight. The Hawaii Symphony Orchestra (HSO) concludes its 2016-17 Halekulani Masterworks season with a stellar evening of keyboard fireworks starring world-renowned pianist Andre Watts in performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor on Saturday, June 10 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, June 11 at 4 pm at Honolulu's Blaisdell Concert Hall. Regarded as one of the greatest works in the piano repertoire, Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 embodies the composer's signature style with its unabashed Romanticism and the virtuosity demanded of the soloist. Watts, who chose to perform the Concerto for the New York Philharmonic's 100th anniversary, is described by The Huffington Post as having "a generosity and opulence that we associate with times of the past," and who "plays unstintingly, every little passage crafted with love and attention," will hold the audience spellbound.

Choreographer Trisha Brown has died on March 18th in San Antonio, Texas, after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her son, Adam Brown, his wife Erin, her four grandchildren – and by her brother Gordon Brown and sister Louisa Brown. Trisha Brown's husband, artist Burt Barr, died on November 7, 2016.
