Harper Lee's classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird is indeed an astonishing tale and the staged incarnation is just as powerful as the book first published in 1960. The story is Lee's account of her own observations of her own family and neighborhood in addition to an event that occurred in/near her hometown in 1936, when she was 10 years old.

Despite some issues, it's best to surrender to the show's madcap hilarity, marvelous set and memorable characters.

There's magic in the summer air at Third Avenue Playhouse. Sturgeon Bay's Stage Door Theater Company opened their new season with Lanford Wilson's Talley's Folly. In this 1980 Pulitzer Prize winning play set in Lebanon, Missouri, with some resemblance to a Door County July, an age worn folly, a Victorian boathouse, conjures a moonlight rendezvous for two heartbroken cynics, Sally and Matt.

The Bijou Theatre is teaming up with New England Ballet Company to put together their first-ever Children's Series, which will run on one Sunday per month at 3pm. The diversity between live musical theatre and a professional dance company will provide a little something for everyone. The first show of the series will be the timeless classic 'Peter and the Wolf' on Sunday September 28 at 3 PM.

Deborah Hay as Sally Bowles is a brilliant light shining in this otherwise very dark production of Cabaret, on stage this season at the Shaw Festival. Hayes has captured Sally completely, and in doing so, captivated the audience. Her rendition of "Maybe This Time" is so convincing that you believe she really wants the relationship to work. But then, as soon as Cliff starts packing for Pennsylvania, you can see the interest drain away from Hay's Sally.

Daring, dramatic and dynamic. Words to describe the conclusion of First Stage's 27th season when the company presents a 50th World Premiere co-written by Artistic Director Jeff Frank and Associate Artistic Director John Maclay adapted from the classic series of mystery stories ghost writtne by Margaret Wirt-Benson in their play Nancy Drew and her Biggest Case Ever. Staged front and center in the Todd Wehr Theater, these three words, daring, dramatic and dynamic apply to the inventive theater company and their captivating new production featuring that famous feminine sleuth Nancy Drew.

ANIMAL CRACKERS, with Book by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind, Music & Lyrics by Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby, and Adapted by Henry Wishcamper with Original Orchestrations by Doug Peck, will run today, April 4 - May 11 in The Stage Theatre. Press night is Thursday, April 10 at 6:30pm.

Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside announces the American Blues Theater's Season 29 'Lost & Sound' at the 'Blue Bash,' their annual fundraiser, Thursday, Feb. 27 from 5:30 - 9 p.m., at the office of Seyfarth Shaw, Suite 2400, 131 S.
