Well, after last week's mini-disaster of a top-13 week, there was not much that American Idol could have thrown out on stage tonight that wouldn't have been an improvement. The home-visit episode, where the final three contestants receive ticker tape parades in their respective hometowns, has been the most emotional in each of IDOL's first 12 seasons. So apparently, new producer Per Blankens decided to use some of that emotion in the early stages of this season. While both the vocals and performances were stark improvements over last week, I'm not sure that this episode is going to harken back to the Golden Days of AMERICAN IDOL's dominance.

After watching Crazy for You in New York City in 1992, Claudia Raia dreamed of one day producing this musical in Brazil. Two decades later, she finally makes her wish come true with an outstanding show at the Teatro Bradesco, São Paulo, directed by José Possi Neto, original choreography by Susan Stroman, and starring Jarbas Homem de Mello, who has been increasingly recognized as one of the most complete performers of musical theater in Brazil.

With a signature flair for programming and a nod to three of history's great jazz artists who are equally at home in the symphonic scene, Music Director and conductor Mitchell Sardou Klein has programmed an evening of music by Bay Area composer/pianist Taylor Eigsti and his artistic predecessors Dave Brubeck and George Gershwin in two performances tonight and tomorrow, January 17 and 18.

Acclaimed screenwriter-director-actor Paul Mazursky is set to receive the Writers Guild of America, West's 2014 Screen Laurel Award, honoring lifetime achievement in outstanding writing for motion pictures.

'Twas the night before Christmas, and through the Houston area people were shopping, cursing their error. Why did they wait for the last few minutes to buy so many holiday presents? Cozy, at home, two theater enthusiasts discussed theatrical amusements. There were funny shows, and sad ones. Some had music and joviality, while others encouraged civic responsibility. But, sadly, the list of dream shows to see just grew and grew. Wouldn't it be great if Houston produced just a few? They may have been done, but not since we started seeing everything. TheaterWorks will present the holiday World Premiere Christmas on the Rocks -- an offbeat collection of twisted holiday tales by multiple nationally known playwrights. These darkly humorous stories run tonight, December 3 through 22, 2013.

Los Altos, CA, November 22, 2013 – With a signature flair for programming and a nod to three of history's great jazz artists who are equally at home in the symphonic scene, Music Director and conductor Mitchell Sardou Klein has programmed an evening of music by Bay Area composer/pianist Taylor Eigsti and his artistic predecessors Dave Brubeck and George Gershwin in two performances January 17 and 18. The program includes the world premieres of new works by Bay Area native and internationally recognized jazz artist Taylor Eigsti along with Eigsti performing Gershwin's game-changing Rhapsody in Blue and a special tribute to late Bay Area composer/pianist and jazz innovator Dave Brubeck in works to be announced featuring Eigsti and saxophonist Dayna Stephens. Rounding out the evening will be Gershwin's overtures to Girl Crazy and Strike Up the Band. The concert will be given Friday, Janaury 17, at 8 pm at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center and Saturday, January 18, at 8 pm at Flint Center/DeAnza College.
