This concert will not include the orchestra but will feature the bluegrass group, along with Martin on banjo and Brickell on vocals.

Abrams' mega-hits Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness on a huge screen suspended above the orchestra. The live musical performance will synchronize perfectly with the film and blend seamlessly with dialogue and sound-effects tracks, creating a truly unique and thrilling movie-watching experience, as audiences witness composer Michael Giacchino's masterful scores recreated live before their eyes.

DAY OF MUSIC Festival Celebrates Musical Diversity Today

Today, July 12, the Houston Symphony will present their 2nd annual free Day of Music festival at Jones Hall. Building off the excitement from last year's inaugural event which attracted 10,000 people, Day of Music will celebrate the great diversity within Houston's musical community with 25 performances on 6 stages in and around Jones Hall. The festival closes with the Houston Symphony Chronicle Concert at 8:00 pm, featuring the Houston Symphony performing music by Ravel, Weber, and Shostakovich, conducted by Fabien Gabel and featuring soloist Lin Ma, clarinetist and 2014 Ima Hogg Competition winner.

Chorus Director Charles Hausmann Retires from the Houston Symphony After 28 Years

Today, the Houston Symphony announced the retirement of long-time Houston Symphony Chorus Director Charles Hausmann. Over an illustrious tenure of 28 years, Dr. Hausmann has prepared and conducted the Chorus for more than 700 concerts. Since he became director of the Chorus in 1986, Dr. Hausmann has collaborated with many of the world's great conductors, including Hans Graf, Christoph Eschenbach, Claus Peter Flor and Robert Shaw.

The Houston Symphony and Musicians Reach Four-Year Labor Agreement

The Houston Symphony Society, along with its musicians, announced today thatthey have reached a four-year labor agreement significantly ahead of schedule. The new agreement will continue aseries of musician salary increases intended to retain and attract the finest orchestra musicians possible and createnew opportunities for expanded community/educational activities and revenue-generating concerts whilemaintaining a sustainable financial position. Under the terms of the next contract, Houston Symphony minimummusician salary will increase an average of 2.85% annually to $97,240 during the 2017-18 season from its currentlevel of $86,840.
