This weekend, November 15, 16 and 17, Megan Hilty, the multi-talented star of NBC's Smash and Sean Saves the World, will take the Houston Symphony stage to pay special tribute to the tunes made famous by stars like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and Dolly Parton. Along with vocalist Aaron Lazar, Hilty will perform cherished songs like 'The Lady is a Tramp,' 'The Best is Yet to Come' and '9 to 5.' The show wouldn't be complete without beloved classics 'Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend' and 'New York, New York,' as well as popular songs of Cole Porter, Harold Arlen and music from Ms. Hilty's upcoming album.

The Houston Symphony's December calendar features a special one-night-only performance as John Williams Joins Yo-Yo Ma on December 5 at Jones Hall. The Symphony will also celebrate the holidays with concerts for the entire family. On December 13, 14 and 15, the Symphony and Chorus will perform Very Merry Pops, which celebrates the season with holiday hits including a special piece, Glad Tidings, which features spiritual leaders from the Houston community as guest narrators.

On October 24, 26 and 27, the Houston Symphony's recently appointed Principal Oboe Jonathan Fischer will take solo spotlight on the Jones Hall stage to perform Mozart's tuneful Oboe Concerto. Written when Mozart was just 21 years old, the concerto is one of the most important works in the oboe repertoire. Fischer joined the Houston Symphony as Principal Oboe in September 2012 and will make his solo debut with these performances. In addition to the Mozart Oboe Concerto, returning Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu will conduct Helix, a short piece written in 2005 by fellow Finnish composer Esa-Pekka Salonen. Also on the program is Schumann's Symphony No. 2, which is famous for its energetic and whimsical Scherzo.

Today, the Houston Symphony announced that TV and Broadway celebrity Matthew Morrison will star in the organization's Centennial Ball scheduled for May 17, 2014. Morrison is well-known for his portrayal of a high school teacher on Fox's Glee and is an acclaimed Broadway performer and recording artist. Morrison will be featured in a special performance with the Houston Symphony under the baton of conductor Steven Reineke.

On October 17, 18, 19 and 20, the Houston Symphony's Music Director Designate Andres Orozco-Estrada will return to Houston for the first time since his announcement on January 16 as the Symphony's next Music Director. Committed to engaging Symphony audiences, the Colombian-born and Vienna-trained conductor will lead a performance at Sugar Land Baptist Church as part of the Symphony's Sugar Land Series in addition to three concerts at Jones Hall, which include an ACCESS concert on Friday. On September 26, 28 and 29, the Houston Symphony will perform Rachmaninoff's exciting choral piece The Bells for the second time in the organization's 100-year history. First performed with the Houston Symphony in February 1944, the upcoming concerts offer a rare opportunity for Houston audiences to experience the piece performed live on the Jones Hall stage. Inspired by a poem by Edgar Allen Poe, The Bells features the orchestra and chorus as they create tonal colors suggesting the sounds of bells, from the merriment of silver bells to the heart-pounding excitement of alarm bells. Conducted by Matthew Halls, this performance will feature the Houston Symphony Chorus led by Director Charles Hausmann. Guest vocalists Jessica Rivera, soprano; Nathaniel Peake, tenor; and David Pittsinger, bass-baritone will perform solo roles.

On August 30, 31 and September 1, the aerial artists, acrobats, jugglers and strongmen of Cirque de la Symphonie will join the Houston Symphony in its Centennial year kicking off its newest season of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell POPS at Jones Hallconcert series. Principal Pops Conductor Michael Krajewski will take the podium as audience members experience the excitement of daredevil performers meeting fiery symphonic music. Since their Houston debut in 2006, Cirque de la Symphonie has performed to rave reviews with sold-out, enthusiastic crowds around the world.
