Recently celebrated in Martin Scorsese's Academy Award-winning adventure Hugo, French filmmaker George Melies is considered the father of cinematic special effects. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth, Melies' family has created a unique "cine-concert" that's touring the world. The tour comes to Chicago's Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Avenue, today, October 27, 12:15 p.m.

Highlights include a three-part daytime lecture series today, May 7, May 21 and June 4, featuring historian Jane Becker and Vuillard exhibition curator Stephen Brown; artist Lisa Yuskavage in conversation with Norman Kleeblatt, The Jewish Museum's Chief Curator, about Vuillard's influence on contemporary art, on Thursday, May 24; and a discussion of Vuillard's career with The Art Institute of Chicago curator Gloria Groom on Thursday, May 31.

Metropolitan Playhouse Presents THE HOUSE OF MIRTH, 4/27-5/20

The Metropolitan Playhouse, a 2011 Obie Award winner, will present a revival of The House of Mirth, by Edith Wharton and Clyde Fitch. The play now receives the first professional revival in its 1906 cutting since, directed by Alex Roe at Metropolitan's home: 220 E 4th Street.
