A special one-night-only edition of Concert for America: Stand Up, Sing Out! will be presented this summer at The 5th Avenue Theatre on Thursday, July 6 at 7:00 PM. A star-studded concert of songs, comedy and commentary, the Seattle edition of Concert for America will feature world class performers including Tony Award-winner Roger Bart (You're a Good Man Charlie Brown), Broadway star Sierra Boggess (The Little Mermaid) and Tony nominee and longtime 5th Avenue Theatre favorite Kerry Butler, who originated the role of Penny Pingleton in Hairspray at The 5th and on Broadway. Seattle's critically acclaimed Spectrum Dance Theater, Naomi Morgan, who starred as Mimi in Rent at The 5th and Caety Sagoian (Jasper in Deadland at The 5th) will also perform. For its annual spring engagement, The Joffrey Ballet presents Global Visionaries, a program of three contemporary works by internationally renowned artists including the World Premiere of Episode 47 by Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman, the Chicago Premiere of The Miraculous Mandarin by San Francisco Ballet Resident Choreographer Yuri Possokhov, created specifically for The Joffrey Ballet and The Cleveland Orchestra, plus the return of Mammatus by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. BROADWAY BY THE YEAR, the musical revue series created, written, directed, and hosted by Scott Siegel and which pays tribute to a different era of Broadway composers each program, is a stroke of brilliance. Occurring once a month, each evening is dedicated specifically to one decade of American musical theater, and features some of the most talented stars currently working in American musical theater. The series' most recent installment (and the first of 2017) on February 27 at its usual home, The Town Hall, paid tribute to the 1920s. The decade, which inducted into the theatrical cannon the likes of George and Ira Gershwin and Richard Rodgers, brims with melodically-rich scores including songs of yearning and joviality. The tunes selected for the evening certainly felt of their era; however, put into the hands of such skilled performers as Carolee Carmello, Beth Malone, and Robert Cuccioli (to name a few), they could be heard with fresh and non-cynical ears.

ShawChicago presents its 2017/18 season, Dysfunctional Family Fun: 1776-1926. The season will include George Bernard Shaw's The Devil's Disciple, Margaret Raether's Jeeves In Bloom, based on the works of P.G. Wodehouse, and Noel Coward's Hay Fever.
