A revealing new book by Darrell Van Citters, Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol: The Making of the First Animated Christmas Special, recently published by Oxberry Press, has reinvigorated the beloved, if not oft forgotten Christmas classic: Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol, composed by Broadway's Jule Styne and Bob Merrill (Funny Girl). While once the reigning champion of holiday broadcasts, and the first animated Christmas special to be produced specifically for television in the 1960s, Mr. Magoo has since taken a back seat to such flashier programs as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas over the years.

According to a report in Variety, Goodspeed Musicals will present three classics next year, two of which the theater company will be staging for the first time. They include Irving Berlin's 'Annie Get Your Gun,' Bob Merrill's 'Carnival' and Frank Loesser's Pulitzer Prize-winning 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.'

After a 48 year absence, Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) will present the first new Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie as the inaugural production of the new Henry Miller's Theatre (124 West 43rd Street) beginning Thursday, September 10th, 2009 with an official opening on Thursday, October 15th, 2009. This will be a limited engagement through January 10th, 2010.

Roundabout's 'BYE BYE BIRDIE' Will Call Newly Completed Henry Miller Theatre 'Home'

After a 48 year absence, Bye Bye Birdie will return to Broadway this fall presented by Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) in a production starring John Stamos (Albert Peterson), Gina Gershon (Rose Alvarez), Bill Irwin (Mr. Harry MacAfee) and Jayne Houdyshell (Mrs. Mae Peterson). Directed & choreographed by Robert Longbottom, Bye Bye Birdie has a book by Michael Stewart, lyrics by Lee Adams and music by Charles Strouse. Roundabout is proud to welcome back three artists who have previously worked at the theatrical institution: John Stamos, Gina Gershon and Bill Irwin.

Three classic shows from some of Broadway's most legendary creators will comprise Reprise Theatre Company's 2010 season. For his second season, Artistic Director Jason Alexander has chosen 'Carousel,' 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,' and 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' at UCLA's Freud Playhouse. As a prelude to the season, Reprise will present a celebration of Richard Rodgers, the father of the American musical, in venues all over Los Angeles during Fall, 2009.

The Phoenix Theatre for Children will present a stage adaptation of one of James Thurber's most charming children's stories, Many Moons, in tribute to author, humorist, New Yorker cartoonist, and Columbus native James Thurber and in celebration of the 25th birthday of central Ohio's literary jewel, the Thurber House. This all-local production boasts colorful costumes, live musical accompaniment, and spirited characters portrayed by four central Ohio actors including 13-year-old Westgate resident Emma Welsh-Huggins who will play the central role. The cast is rounded out by GermanVillage resident Ted Amore, Gahanna resident Ian Short, and Marysville resident Joe Bishara.
