A special concert featuring the string section of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra has been added to the Company's 2016 fall season. On Today, December 8, the 40 violins, violas, cellos and basses of the acclaimed Opera Orchestra will command the spotlight in San Francisco Opera Orchestra Up Close: The Strings a program featuring works by Mozart, Grieg and early 20th-century composers Ruth Crawford Seeger and John Ireland.

Richard Move/MoveOpolis! returns to New York Live Arts as the opening performance of Live Ideas 2017 with the world premiere of XXYY, a multilayered work conceived and directed by Move, with costumes by acclaimed theater artist Alba Clemente and an original score by Italian electronic music pioneer Martux_m. The program will also feature Martha@... 20, a special performance marking the 20th anniversary of Move's highly acclaimed performances as Martha Graham in the Martha@... series. Performances are Wednesday, March 8, to Saturday, March 11, at 7:30pm, at New York Live Arts, 219 West 19th Street (between 7th and 8th Avenues), in Manhattan.

The first UK staging of STRICTLY BALLROOM THE MUSICAL - based on the much loved film that inspired the world to dance - is to premiere at West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds, tonight 30 November 2016, playing a season through until Saturday 21 January 2017 (Press Night: Tuesday 6 December at 7.30pm).

Music Director David Hayes will lead the New York Choral Society and Orchestra (NYChoral) in the United States premiere of Maltese composer Joseph Vella's The Hyland Mass: A Prayer for Unity in Diversity.

OPERA NEWS Editor in Chief F. Paul Driscoll today announced the recipients of the 12th Annual OPERA NEWS Awards. This year's honorees—stage director Robert Carsen, soprano Christine Goerke, conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, tenor Matthew Polenzani, and mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade—will be feted at a black tie gala celebration on April 9th, 2017 at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Tony Award winner Kelli O'Hara will be the special musical guest. 

Florida Grand Opera (FGO) is pleased to announce the promotion and addition of new members to its music staff. Katherine Kozak, continuing in the position of Chorus Master at Florida Grand Opera and celebrating 20 years in the opera industry, will be promoted to also serve as Head Coach of the company's Young Artist Program. Howard Lubin will serve as Senior Coach, and Paul Schwartz and Paul Kovacovic will fill the roles of staff accompanists.

After four successful Enthusiastic Events!, The Dance Enthusiast is thrilled to announce the 5th Enthusiastic Events! event:  Dance: Island to Island-Moving Caribbean in New York City, Wednesday November 16, 6:15 PM to 9 (nibblies before and after; performance at 7 PM) at Gibney Dance, 280 Broadway (entrance at 53A Chambers Street).   Enthusiastic Events! is proud to partner with PANK Elephant Catering, who will be providing tasty delicacies from all over the Caribbean chain.   The event follows four successful previous Enthusiastic Events! in which The Dance Enthusiast celebrated the relationship of dance to other important fields: the world of design and fashion, the world of empowing thought and action, the world of visual art and, most recently, the landscape of dance on Broadway versus concert dance versus Reality TV.   

Following its critical acclaim and sold out performances on the main programme of the Grahamstown National Arts Festival earlier this year, Graham Weir's double Fleur du Cap Theatre Award-winning DEAD YELLOW SANDS comes to the Baxter Golden Arrow Studio stage for a limited season.

Strengthening its role as a center for artist research and development, Jacob's Pillow Dance announces an active, year-round season with its expanded 2016-2017 Creative Development Residency program. This season brings new additions to the program including two technical residencies, cross-genre collaborations, and invited audiences of college students, as well as a diverse roster of 10 artist residencies, the Pillow's largest residency season yet.

Opera Santa Barbara has named four outstanding young vocalists Mosher Studio Artists for 2016-17. Under an expansion of the company's artist residency program begun last year, the four standout singers and an apprentice vocal coach will take part in Opera Santa Barbara productions, community events throughout Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, and coachings and masterclasses with top industry directors and conductors.

Friday was a big day at Florida Grand Opera (FGO). The company held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to commemorate the largest gift in its 75 year history - its 35,000 square foot office and rehearsal space. FGO's General Director and CEO, Susan T. Danis, opened the event with a short introduction welcoming press and donors to the momentous occasion and expressing the sincere gratitude of all those affiliated with the Opera.

Award-winning choreographer and former Rambert dancer DIDY VELDMAN has developed an excellent reputation for her expressive, thoughtful, dynamic work for a wide range of dance companies including Scapino Ballet in Amsterdam, Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve and Rambert.  She has recently formed UMANOOVE, her own company, to develop and perform her latest work, 'THE HAPPINESS PROJECT' which premieres at Ipswich Jerwood DanceHouse on November 4th before touring.

Opera Exposures  (http://www.operaexposures.org), the not-for-profit opera company founded by Edna Greenwich in 2004, will present  a special recital celebrating  Elizabeth Taylor Browning, the first African American opera singer to gain recognition in Europe and the United States in the mid to late 19th century, on Sunday, September 18, at 3:00 PM at the Jewish Community Center of Staten Island, 1466 Manor Road.  Tickets, available at the door, are $25.
