The Theatre School at DePaul University has announced that Omer Abbas Salem has been awarded the 2021 Cunningham Commission for Youth Theatre. Salem will be writing a play for families and young audiences that focuses on assimilation, a major theme in his work.

As I hurriedly walk into the Collins Theatre, 120 W. Emerson St. In Paragould, I was thrilled with how charming it was and mentally kicked myself for not getting there sooner so I could explore the building. Originally built in 1925, this facility takes you back to yesteryears to what theaters use to be before all the modern updates, but though the look was dated, the choosing to perform RENT, music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson, definitely was not. The people of the Collins Theatre chose a very bold, daring musical that exceeded way past my expectations, and even though they had technical difficulties early on (and what theatre doesn't have those), they reset and performed like they were on Broadway.

The power and appeal of CHICAGO is on display at Arizona Broadway Theatre in a production, directed by Kurtis Overby, that sizzles with pizzazz and features vibrant and scintillating performances by Tiffany Sparks, Liz Fallon, and Kiel Klaphake. The show runs through October 30th.

'Dorothy Parker: A Certain Woman' runs from September 15 – October 16, Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:00 PM at The Cape May Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes Street, where ELTC is in residence.

For their 38th season at Undermain they are creating an exciting array of diverse performance opportunities to inspire and enrich our community and support artists in North Texas. They hope to be able to offer live performances in addition to the virtual streaming videos for each production. 

Des Moines Metro Opera announced today the commission of an expanded version of an American opera entitled American Apollo, with music by Damien Geter and libretto by Lila Palmer. The organization will partner with Pyramid Theatre Company and the Des Moines Art Center to mount the original twenty-minute version of the opera, originally commissioned by Washington National Opera, as part of its 50th Anniversary Season in 2022 and will present the world-premiere of the full-length version of American Apollo during the 2024 Festival Season.

It was just announced by the Pulitzer Prize organization that Katori Hall's The Hot Wing King has officially won the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This year's finalists included Circle Jerk by Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley and Stew by Zora Howard.

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the multi-Grammy Award-winning ensemble, continues its collaboration with the Morris Museum's Lot of Strings Festival with this last of three concerts in 2021.

Carnegie Hall today announced that its historical archival collections have been named as the Carnegie Hall Susan W. Rose Archives. This naming is in recognition of Susan W. Rose’s longstanding support of the Hall’s Archives and Rose Museum over the course of the past thirty years.

ELYOT & AMANDA: ALL ALONE from Noël Coward's PRIVATE LIVES is the next production in Playhouse on Park's 12th Main Stage Season. Veanne Cox and Ezra Barnes will co-star in this timely, lighthearted adaptation. It will be available to stream online from February 10th - 28th, 2021.

Sono Luminus has announced the January 22, 2021 worldwide release of Occurrence, a new recording from the Iceland Symphony Orchestra (ISO). Conducted by the ISO’s Principal Guest Conductor Daníel Bjarnason and recorded at Harpa in Reykjavík, Iceland in February '18, December '19 & March '20, Occurrence features music by leading Icelandic composers.

Classic movies from the Majestic Theater’s 95 years of history will be shown weekends in November and December on the big screen in the theater’s historic auditorium in celebration of the Majestic’s 95th birthday. Tickets are limited to 100 per showing and public health procedures will be in place. Advanced ticket purchase is strongly recommended.
