Based on the libretto by Adolf Hoffmeister and Vaclava Klimenta Klicpery.

Aninku and Pepicek are a fatherless sister and brother. Their mother is ill, and the doctor tells them she needs milk to recover. But they have no money. They decide to sing in the marketplace, to raise the needed money. But the evil organ grinder Brundibar chases them away. However, with the help of a fearless sparrow, keen cat, and wise dog, and the children of the town, they are able to chase Brundibar away in turn, and sing in the market square.

Young People's Chorus of NYC Recognizes Holocaust Remembrance Day with Special Presentation of BRUNDIBAR

In recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day, The Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC) will perform the historic and poignant children’s opera, “Brundibár” at The Museum of Jewish Heritage on Sunday, January 29 at 3 p.m.  The performance will feature a cast of 40 choristers and a 13-piece orchestra, conducted by YPC Associate Conductor Sophia Papoulis, with direction by Eric Einhorn of On Site Opera and costumes by Beth Goldenberg.

Writers Guild and Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Tony Kushner has been chosen to receive the WGAW's 2013 Paul Selvin Award for his adapted screenplay for Lincoln. Named after the late Selvin, who served as counsel to the Guild, the award is given to the WGA member whose script best embodies the spirit of the constitutional and civil rights and liberties, which are indispensable to the survival of free writers everywhere. Kushner will be recognized, along with other honorees, at the Writers Guild Awards ceremony on Sunday, February 17, at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE.
