The 25th annual Lotus World Music & Arts Festival will fill the streets of downtown Bloomington, Indiana with sights and sounds from around the globe (September 27-30, 2018).  Thirty international artists, free large-scale art installations, and events for all ages will fill 14 downtown Bloomington venues with palpable energy and an eclectic blend of global sound and spectacle. Venues range in style from the historic Buskirk-Chumley Theater, to contemplative church settings, to pavement-quaking outdoor dance tents and even a pop-up 360° video-immersion space. Music genres span continents and cultures, including Colombian marimba, Hawaiian hula, Malian desert groove, high-energy Congolese soukous, Swedish folk rock, contemporary American string music, and more.  A complete list of artists is available below or at lotusfest.org.  All-inclusive, weekend, and single-day passes are available for online, phone, and walk-up purchase via the BCT Box Office.

It can be easily argued - and successfully as well - that those songs that truly resonate are the ones that speak to our humanity and inspire us to peer well beyond the horizon. Beth Snapp's striking new single a cover of the Steve Winwood classic 'Higher Love' does just that. It's sung for a cause one that is particularly powerful in a time when the struggle for civil rights has not only intensified but become all the more essential. Snapp recorded the single at the behest of TriPride an organization that works towards building a stronger and more inclusive community across Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. 'When I was first approached by TriPride to cover this tune my first thought was wow they hit the nail on the head thematically,' Snapp says. 'To choose a song that calls for a higher love and peace between neighbors is the most imperative message we can be spreading especially at a time when the divide has become so much deeper. I was so proud to get to be a part of that message.' Indeed the song's lyrics share an incisive message that's not only timeless but especially telling as well:

Kafka's most famous story of a man who inexplicably finds himself transformed into a beetle will be getting a fresh adaptation from Bath-based company Beyond The Horizon. In a modern day setting and told with stunning visuals, provided by TV and film makeup artist Sarah Luscombe, the production probes our understanding of how perception shapes our interactions, and the pressures on families taking care of a person who is in some way debilitated. Gregor's metamorphosis will be shown in ultra-realistic detail through state-of-the-art makeup and prosthetics.

The Joffrey closes its 2019-2020 season with the return of Yuri Possokhov's inspired Don Quixote, conceived and created for the Joffrey in 2011, which, at the time, became the first commission of an evening-length ballet by the Joffrey in over 60 years. Don Quixote is presented in ten performances only, April 22-May 3 at the Auditorium Theatre. Don Quixote marks the Joffrey's final production at the Auditorium Theatre. The Company moves to the Lyric Opera House with the start of the 2020-2021 season.

Galvin Artistic Director of The Joffrey Ballet, proudly announces an impressive 2019-2020 season featuring a Chicago premiere from Northern Ballet Artistic Director Cathy Marston, along with a Chicago premiere from Tony Award-winning choreographer and New York City Ballet Resident Choreographer Justin Peck, plus the return of an audience favorite by choreographer Yuri Possokhov, and Christopher Wheeldon's holiday classic The Nutcracker. The Joffrey Ballet begins its 64th season with Marston's modern re-telling of Jane Eyre, October 16-27, 2019, followed by Wheeldon's magical holiday classic The Nutcracker, November 30-December 29, 2019. For its winter engagement, the Joffrey presents a mixed repertory program that includes the Chicago premiere of Peck's acclaimed The Times Are Racing, the Chicago premieres of Mono Lisa and The Sofa by Israeli choreographer Itzik Galili, Wheeldon's Commedia, and Bliss!, a new work from Stephanie Martinez, winner of the Joffrey's 2015 Winning Works choreographic competition, February 12-23, 2020. The world premiere of Jemma Kennedy's blisteringly entertaining Genesis Inc. will be directed by Laurie Sansom. The world premiere of Fiona Doyle's haunting and provocative new drama The Strange Death of John Doe will be directed by Artistic Director Edward Hall for Hampstead Downstairs. The production is a Hampstead Theatre commission and a finalist for The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. Under 30s can access Priority Booking for all shows via The Downstairs Club - Hampstead's free membership scheme to allow better access to the cheaper seats.
