National Alliance for Musical Theatre has announced additional directors and casting for their 27th ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS. The Festival will take place on Thursday, October 15 and Friday, October 16 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues).

Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis announces the Indiana Premiere of One Man, Two Guvnors opening tonight, September 24, 2015 on the Steve and Livia Russell Stage. This production runs through October 18, with Rich Rand serving as director.

A cutting-edge musical written by the Grammy Award-winning rock band Green Day, fresh takes on Greek and Shakespeare classics, a new production of a popular Imagine U family show and more are part of Northwestern University's 2015-16 Mainstage season.

Bucks County Playhouse announces that due to unforeseen artist scheduling conflicts, the Oscar Hammerstein Festival will be moved from fall to spring, 2016.

As part of its 2015-2016 Producing Season, HERE proudly presents Chang(e), a HERE Resident Artist production devised by Soomi Kim and director Suzi Takahashi.  A limited engagement plays November 4 - 22 at HERE (145 Sixth Avenue, just below Spring Street).  This new work, developed through the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP), marks the culmination of a residency for Soomi Kim with HARP.

Songwriting team Matte O'Brien and Matt Vinson will be making their 54 Below debut on September 27th at 9:30PM.

Actors' Equity Association today named It Shoulda Been You recipient of the 'Extraordinary Excellence in Diversity on Broadway' Award for the 2014-15 theatrical season. Presented by Equity's National Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Committee, the award honors shows that exemplify and promote the union's founding principles of diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity for all who work in the theatre. Accepting the award on behalf of the It Shoulda Been You producers and creative team was producer Daryl Roth. Also in attendance were cast members Edward Hibbert and Jillian Louis, director David Hyde Pierce, composer Barbara Anselmi, co-lyricist and librettist Brian Hargrove and the production's stage management team: Bess Marie Glorioso, Katherine Shea and Melanie Morgan.

The Hypocrites launch their 2015-16 season with the Chicago premiere of the smash Broadway musical AMERICAN IDIOT, featuring music by Grammy Award-winning punk rock band Green Day, book by Green Day frontman/guitaristBillie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer and lyrics by Armstrong, direction by Steven Wilson, musical direction by Andra Velis Simon and choreography by Katie Spelman. The Public Theater will kick off the 2015-16 season in September with a free Public Works musical adaptation of Homer's THE ODYSSEY, conceived and directed by Public Works Director Lear deBessonet, with music, lyrics and book by Todd Almond. THE ODYSSEY will once again feature over 200 actors and community members alongside five equity actors, including this year Brandon Victor Dixon as Odysseus and Karen Olivo as Penelope.

Bucks County Playhouse producers Robyn Goodman and Alexander Fraser just announced the 2nd Annual Oscar Hammerstein Festival -- named in honor of the master lyricist who wrote some of America's most beloved and recognizable musicals at his family farm in Bucks County.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that songwriter Jonathan Reid Gealt will celebrate the release of his new cd, 'Whatever I Want It To Be,' at Birdland with a bevy of Broadway stars on Sunday, November 29 at 6pm.

Continuing its ongoing efforts of supporting the development of new musicals and plays under its SigWorks program, Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA is currently workshopping SCKBSTD by Grammy Award-winning composer/lyricist Bruce Hornsby, lyricist Chip deMatteo and book writer Joe Calarco (Shakespeare's R&J, Walter Cronkite is Dead) based on an original book by Clay McLeod Chapman (rest area, The Tribe Trilogy). The workshop will culminate in an invitation only presentation.

2015 First Night Honoree Martha Wilkinson holds the record for the most First Night Awards with nine. A frequent performer on the First Night stage -- including particularly show-stopping numbers such as her rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone,' while clad in a white ballgown and backed up by a chorus of Nashville theater's leading men -- she's one of Tennessee's favorites for certain. She was first recognized by the First Night Awards in 1989, when she won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical for her role in Circle Players' production of Pippin.

Sometimes it seems there is so much theater happening that it's difficult to keep track of it all. From personal experience, despite all the datebooks, smart phones, tablets, desktop computers and laptops...it's hard to keep everything straight in this wacky business of the show. Thus, we are happy to present a new feature: The Nashville Theater Calendar, a comprehensive - maybe even exhaustive (lord knows we're exhausted from putting it together, gathering all the info from all over the interwebs!) - listing of theatrical openings for the 2015/16 season. We'll update the calendar every Monday, clearing out the shows that have closed and adding additional information on the shows still to come. Something's missing?
