Warehouse Theatre continues its 2016 Season today with Angels in America, Part One: Millennium Approaches by Tony Kushner and directed by Kristofer Green.

Besides the Hollywood Bowl's all-star concert event, THE LITTLE MERMAID also made a splash at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. This visually-gorgeous, fully-staged new production of the film's Broadway stage adaptation---produced locally by McCoy Rigby Entertainment with new staging and direction by Glenn Casale---continues in the city of La Mirada through June 26.

Starlight Theatre's Broadway season stepped off Friday evening with the offbeat, intimate 'Once' based on a 2007 film of the same name. The film became a cult favorite and earned the 2008 Academy Award for Best Song 'Falling, Slowly.' Rewritten for the stage and transformed into a full-fledged musical, 'Once' the musical earned eight 2012 Tony Awards including Best New Musical.

Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts has announced the July, August, and September lineup for the 2016 Comedy Club. Monday nights at 8 pm. All dates are available online at www.baystreet.org or calling the Box Office at 631-725-9500. All comedy performances are suggested for ages 17 and up. The evening benefits the groundbreaking research led by David B. Agus, MD, Director of the Westside Cancer Center and Center for Applied Molecular Medicine (CAMM) at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. I am enormously thrilled that Strathmore took this one on. It's not the kind of event the largely classical venue usually presents and I hope to see more risk-taking in the future. The pieces offer up stories that need to be heard, and there's no denying the music and performers are first rate.

MADAMA BUTTERFLY was never my favorite Puccini until the current production conceived by Anthony Minghella. Before, Butterfly always seemed too submissive, Pinkerton too brutish and their child, well, too cute. Now—particularly with the current cast, headed by the magnificent Kristine Opolais as the young geisha and the dashing Roberto Alagna as the clueless Pinkerton, her American husband--seemed to put my past reservations to rest. The result was a magnificent performance, from beginning to end.
