PlayGround Festival Sets Directors And Casts For 2 New Works

Directors and Casting is set for the two PlayGround Festival premieres, A HISTORY OF FREAKS by Katie May, May 13-June 15 , helmed by circus arts performer and director Doyle Ott and ANNA CONSIDERS MARS by Ruben Grijalva,  May 20-June 16 (Press /Opening: May 22 at 8pm), helmed by San Francisco Playhouse Producing Director Susi Damilano. The productions will run in rotating repertory as part of the 25th Season PlayGround Festival of New Works, May 13-June 16, 2019. Tickets for the entire PlayGround Festival are now on sale. Creative Cauldron To Present ALICE IN WONDERLAND

Continuing a celebration of its 10th season of award-winning theater, Creative Cauldron will present Alice in Wonderland from March 22 through April 14, 2019. The production features 13 original songs created for the show by Matt Conner, with lyrics by Stephen Gregory Smith.  Twenty-four young people participating in Creative Cauldron's Learning Theater program will perform the iconic characters that have made this story a beloved classic.  Madeline Aldana joins the cast as Alice and Izzy Smelkinson stars as the White Rabbit. Creative Cauldron veterans Will Stevenson and E. Augustus (Gus) Knapp appear as the Queen of Hearts and King of Hearts respectively. Press night is Saturday, March 23 at 7:30 pm.

The Last Supper, a Temple Independent Theater Company Performance, written and directed by Ahmed El Attar with music by Hassan Kahn premiered in the U.S. at the Kennedy Center between March 14-16 2019 after several productions around the world. It is a comedic satire performed in Arabic with English subtitles. The satire is followed by riveting post-show discussion, during which the cast provides insight about the juxtaposition between the extreme affluence driving indifference, and oppression inspiring activism that many of the performers observed and experienced during the 2011 Egyptian revolution.

Danny Mac Joins Cast of the UK Tour of AMELIE

West End performer, Strictly Come Dancing favourite and television actor Danny Mac has been confirmed to join the UK tour of Amelie The Musical, based on the much-loved, five-time Oscar-nominated film. Joining previously announced French-Canadian stage and screen star Audrey Brisson as Amelie Poulain, Danny Mac will play the sweet daydreamer Nino Quincampoix from 22 May. The role of Nino will be played by Chris Jared during performances at The Watermill Theatre.

Central Works 2019 Season's first show Wonderland, a comedy by Gary Graves, launches the 4 play 29th season and has EXTENDED THROUGH March 24th (originally scheduled to close March 17). "We truly are through the rabbit hole, and the state of the nation is beyond parody… [Wonderland is] a playful mashup of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" and Franz Kafka's "The Trial" set in Washington, DC." as described by Sam Hurwitt for the San Jose Mercury News. The comedy Wonderland takes place at a time when "The White House it depicts is so fundamentally broken, such a chaotic and paranoid confusion of backstabbing and intrigue, that even the most abominable scenarios aren't particularly surprising."

Disney Partners with Spirit Airlines for DUMBO-Inspired Plane

Celebrating the upcoming release of Disney's live-action movie “Dumbo,” Spirit Airlines today unveiled its specially-themed Airbus A321 that features a larger-than-life image of the beloved Disney character Dumbo. Spirit and Disney revealed the new plane with a time-lapse video of the decal-wrapping process which took place at Spirit's state-of-the-art Detroit maintenance hangar.

The Tony Award winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) will launch its 84th year and Bill Rauch's final season as artistic director with preview performances beginning on March 1. The 2019 season officially kicks off Friday night, March 8, in the Angus Bowmer Theatre with Shakespeare's As You Like It (director, Rosa Joshi). On Saturday afternoon, Cambodian Rock Band (director, Chay Yew) opens in the Thomas Theatre, and Hairspray The Broadway Musical (director, Christopher Liam Moore) opens that evening in the Angus Bowmer Theatre. Iris Theatre launched its first summer season in 2009 with an acclaimed outdoor promenade production of Romeo & Juliet. In the decade since they have produced 16 more shows in the grounds of St Paul's Church, Covent Garden, ranging from Alice in Wonderland to Shakespeare's Macbeth. Iris have been nominated for 11 Off West End awards and won the award for Best Production for Young People for Treasure Island.
