An annual favourite at the Roundhouse for the last six years, The Last Word Festival offers over 30 powerful performances which blur the lines between spoken word, poetry, music, circus, and cabaret. Spanning 19 days, the festival platforms compelling and underrepresented voices exploring topics of politics, race, identity, gender, body positivity, mental health, and more. ABC's “General Hospital”'s wildly popular Nurses Ball returns to Port Charles, THURSDAY, MAY 16. In anticipation of this year's eponymous event, ABC is releasing the “Best of the Nurses Ball 2014-2018” collection. This year the 9th Shakespeare School Festival South Africa (SSF SA) kicks off on 16 April 2019 and will be dedicated to Sonny Venkatrathnam who passed away on 15 March at the age of 84. During his incarceration on Robben Island, Venkatrathnam, an apartheid freedom fighter, smuggled in a copy of The Complete Works of Shakespeare, disguised it as a bible and passed it between a number of prisoners, including Nelson Mandela. Many of the inmates marked their favourite passages in the book and Mandela's signature was found next to a quote from Julius Caesar, 'Cowards die many times before their deaths, the valiant never taste of death but once.' The festival will open with the play by Matthew Hahn entitled The Robben Island Shakespeare, performed by former Vista Nova High School Learners and young actors from the Educasions group.

The Public Theater announced today a one-week extension of the world premiere of AIN'T NO MO', written by Jordan E. Cooper and directed by Stevie Walker-Webb. Following its initial run in Public Studio in 2018, AIN'T NO MO' will begin previews on Tuesday, March 12 with a Joseph Papp Free Preview performance in The Public's LuEsther Hall. This vital new American play will now run through Sunday, April 28, with an official press opening on Wednesday, March 27.

Nassim Soleimanpour is an Iranian playwright whose new play NASSIM is currently being presented by Barrow Street Theatricals at New York City Center Stage II. NASSIM has previously played to sold-out audiences across the globe and features a unique set-up of a new guest actor at each performance who has not read or rehearsed the play. Soleimanpour previously explored this concept in his play WHITE RABBIT RED RABBIT, which ran Off-Broadway for nine months in 2016. So far in its run, NASSIM has been performed by guest actors such as Michael Urie, Tatiana Maslany, Beth Malone, Ethan Slater, Kate Walsh and many more.

Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has selected its four finalists for the 2019 Premiere Play Festival. Now in its 15th year, the Festival is an annual competition for unproduced scripts that offers developmental opportunities to playwrights with strong affiliations to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware. This year's finalists were selected from a record 659 submissions, a 15% increase from the previous record set in 2018.

Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen and the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) Acting Commissioner Anne del Castillo today announced the first round of grant recipients of the "Made in NY" Women's Film, TV & Theatre Fund. Funds were awarded to 63 film, TV, theatre and digital media projects made by creative entrepreneurs who identify as women. This is the first round of a $5 million, three-year program funded by MOME and administered by New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA).
