The Artistic Home will follow up its highly acclaimed and Jeff recommended production of By the Bog of Cats - a contemporary Irish take on Medea - with a much cheerier updating of a classic. Their summer production for 2017 will be David Ives' comedy in verse, The School for Lies. As Ives did with The Liar, his 'translaptation' of Corneille's Le Menteur, he honors the French 17th Century practice of writing in verse, but uses contemporary language even as he maintains the Moliere play's original setting of Paris in 1666.

A series of tweets on the parody account @TheTweetofGod landed American comedy writer David Javerbaum a book deal. Eventually that book, The Last Testament: A Memoir By God, was adapted for the stage and renamed as An Act of God. The stage version premiered at Broadway's Studio 54 Theatre in 2015 with Big Bang Theory sitcom star Jim Parsons in the leading role. A second run featured Will & Grace's Sean Hayes in the leading role, and now the B Street Theatre will give the holy role to Nick Cearley (Buyer & Cellar).

Goodman Theatre invites members of the Chicagoland theater community-directors, designers, actors and theater artisans working at local performing arts venues-to a giveaway that includes select prop and set pieces from past Goodman productions. Every item is offered completely free of charge, and all must be taken immediately. Previews are not available prior to the sale. The props giveaway will take place at Goodman Theatre's Scene Shop (363 W. Pershing Road) starting at 9am until 1pm (or while supplies last). In lieu of an admission fee, the Goodman will accept donations in any amount ($10 suggested minimum) for Season of Concern, a service organization of the Chicago theater community.
