A Chorus Line is the 1975 Broadway musical that gives audiences an inside look at what it's like to be a dancer. The action of the play takes place at a single audition in which 17 dancers all vie for a spot in a new Broadway show. Throughout the course of the evening we learn about the dancers; their personalities, their pasts, and most importantly what has shaped them into the performers they are today. When A Chorus Line opened in 1975 it was met with an outpouring of positive press, and wound up taking home 9 Tony Awards including Best Musical and the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for drama. Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ presented a tribute to A Chorus Line composer Marvin Hamlisch at the official opening of the show on Sunday, October 7th 2012. Kelly Bishop joined director Mitzi Hamilton and over 50 of A Chorus Line cast members from Broadway. Directly following the curtain call, A Chorus Line Broadway alumni joined the Paper Mill Playhouse cast on stage as they reprised a section of the 'Finale' in tribute to Mr. Hamlisch. The show provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers. The original Broadway production received 12 Tony Award nominations and winning nine of them, in addition to the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

ANNIE, the new production of the Tony Award-winning musical, went into rehearsal today in New York City with its full company. The production begins previews October 3, 2012 and opens November 8, 2012 at the Palace Theatre (Broadway at 47th Street). Meet the full cast below!

According to Variety, a revival of A CHORUS LINE will open at the London Palladium on the West End, Feb. 2-June 29, 2013. This will be the first London revival since the original production. Original co-choreographer Bob Avian is set to direct. Casting will be announced at a later date.

The Broadway community mourns the loss of celebrated composer, performer, arranger, musical coordinator, orchestrator, and musical supervisor, Marvin Hamlisch, who passed away yesterday at age 68. The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in his memory on Wednesday, August 8th, at exactly 8:00 p.m. for one minute.

Hamlisch, one of only eleven EGOT winners in the history of the entertainment industry, was awarded three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globe awards for his work. On Broadway, he wrote the music for A Chorus Line - which received the Pulitzer Prize - as well as They're Playing Our Song, The Goodbye Girl and Sweet Smell of Success.

Christina DeCicco, the "Eva" alternate in the new Broadway production of EVITA, performs the title role for 14 performances, beginning tonight, July 12 and running through July 19, followed by performances running August 11-18, while Elena Roger is on vacation. With the exception of Saturday, August 11, when Elena Roger will perform the matinee, Jessica Lea Patty will step into the role for the Wednesday evening and Saturday matinee performances during these periods, performing July 18 & August 15 at 8pm, and July 14 & August 18 at 2pm.

American Dance Machine for the 21st Century (ADM21) will present a workshop presentation of four classic musical theater and film dance numbers on Thursday, June 28 at New York City Center, Studio 4 at 6 pm. Each piece has been coached by artists intimately involved in their original productions; numbers from Contact, A Chorus Line, Lovely to Look At and Jerome Robbins' Broadway will be presented. The evening will be directed by Artistic Director Margo Sappington and feature live music with musical direction by Tedd Firth. ADM21 is a new not-for-profit dance company founded by Executive Director Nikki Feirt Atkins, dedicated to creating a living and vibrant archive of classic and current notable musical theater choreography.
