The New York Philharmonic will present The Art of Andriessen, October 4-14, 2018, celebrating Music Director Jaap van Zweden's Dutch compatriot Louis Andriessen, the third recipient of The Marie-Josee Kravis Prize for New Music at the New York Philharmonic. 

“Dancing with the Stars” is waltzing its way into its upcoming season, and the new celebrity cast is adding some glitzy bling to their wardrobe, breaking in their dancing shoes and readying themselves for their first dance on the ballroom floor, as the season kicks off MONDAY, SEPT. 24 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand. This season's lineup of celebrity dancers includes an “American Idol” mentor, the first-ever blind contestant to take part in the show, an alumnus from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a Duke of Hazzard, an Olympic Gold medal-winning gymnast and a Bachelor Nation favorite, among others.

As I am greeted by 'The Phantom of the Opera' producer, Karianne Jaeger, and led up through the back stage's circular stairs the atmosphere in the theatre feels very focused and concentrated. Stagehands working to fit the stage pieces in the cramped wings, technicians are lighting the ballet dancers during 'Ill Muto.' The huge chandelier (bigger than the original) is looming in the ceiling over the stalls. 'We are in great shape,' Jaeger exclaims. 'We are in the middle of the final technical rehearsals, but we are working hard to make this great production even greater. It's all in the details.'

New Dance Alliance is pleased to announce the lineup for the 32nd annual Performance Mix Festival. “The most elaborate festival of the unpredictable” (The New York Times), the 2018 edition brings together more than 30 artists with diverse approaches to performance, inviting audiences to engage with the unexpected and to experience some of the newest voices in experimental dance. Bristol Riverside Theatre ends its mainstage season triumphantly with the farcical period-piece musical Triumph of Love, based on the play by Marivaux, with book by James Magruder, music by Jeffrey Stock, and lyrics by Susan Birkenhead on May 1-20. Directed by Keith Baker, music directed by Douglass Lutz, and choreographed by Stephen Casey, the ensemble cast features Jake Delaney, Joy Franz, Adam Hoyak, Alex Keiper, Rebecca Robbins, Danny Rutigliano, and Carl Wallnau.

The Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival returns to the historic French Quarter for its 32nd annual celebration of contemporary literature, culture, theater, and the works of Tennessee Williams. From March 21-25, 2018, attendees will enjoy celebrated award-winning speakers alongside fresh new voices on the literary scene.

Three members of The Smiths are to reunite on stage for the first time in 30 years for a brand new live concert production which celebrates the music of one of the most influential and important bands of all time. Classically Smiths which debuts this summer with concerts in Manchester, London and Edinburgh before a full UK tour later this year will reimagine the enduringly powerful sounds of the seminal Manchester band in a beautifully orchestrated live concert.

Performance Space New York (formerly Performance Space 122) presents the East Village Series, its first semi-annual themed series, and the first program curated by the institution's new Executive Artistic Director, Jenny Schlenzka. This presentation of works from some of today's most radical performers and multidisciplinary artists resituates the institution in newly revamped spaces, designed by Deborah Berke Partners, in 122 Community Center (150 First Avenue, at East 9th Street), where Performance Space 122 was founded, and where it operated until it moved out in 2011 for the building renovation. The series contemplates the past, present, and future of the organization and its neighborhood.

Bristol Riverside Theatre heads into the new year with Donald Margulies' Pulitzer Prize-winning classic Time Stands Still January 23-February 11. Directed by Susan D. Atkinson, the ensemble cast includes Laura Giknis, Eleanor Handley, Michael Satow, and Danny Vaccaro.

The Kitchen presents 'Julius Eastman: That Which Is Fundamental,' an interdisciplinary project of performances and a two-part exhibition, curated by artist Tiona Nekkia McCloden and Bowerbird founder Dustin Hurt, that comprises the most expansive demonstration yet of Julius Eastman's rousing creative output, January 19 - February 10, 2018.

I've seen The Phantom of the Opera around 25 times and it's really one of my favorite musicals. The music is amazing, the clothes are wonderful and the storyline is classic with the beauty and the beast, the hero. The fragile Christine, who is abducted by the horrible phantom but rescued by her youth love but the fragile side of the Phantom is shown and she is torn between them. It has been played the same way since 1986 and Andrew Lloyd Webber and The Really Useful Group have kept firm in how it gets played and staged, by who, where and when. But when the Finnish National Opera was going to play it, they got permission to make a new adoption of it. The creative team, Tiina Puumalainen director, ??Teppo J rvinen scenographer, Marjaana Mutanen, costume designer, Osku Heiskane choreographer, Teemu Nurmelin light designer and Andreas 'Stanley' L nnquist and Sakari Kiiski sound designer, create a totally reworked musical. It started playing in Finland and was transferred the 23rd of September 2017 to Sweden and the Opera in Gothenburg. As I wanted to see Fred Johanson as the Phantom and John Martin Bengtsson as Raoul, I had to find a date when they played in the same performance, and the date was set for December 9th. Before I saw it, I had seen some pictures that appear on the website and in press and I have to say that I was both excited and curious about what to expect. I've seen the musical so many times so it feels like I know every sequin on the fantastic dresses and when an eyebrow is to be raised so it was with mixed feelings I booked the ticket. Should I like the changes or not? I had no doubt that Fred and John Martin would deliver as I seen them several times. Fred lastest in Sunset Boulevard on West End in London. The same role as he did on Broadway this year with Glenn Close. John Martin was understudy to both The Phantom and Raoul in Stockholm this year and I had the privilege to see him as Phantom. Both has absolutely amazing voices. But for the new adoption I was not sure...
