Ovens Auditorium will host Irish rock and dance show 'Rockin' Road to Dublin' on Thursday, April 26 at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. and can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com, by phone at 800-745-3000, at all Ticketmaster outlets or at the Bojangles' Coliseum Box Office located at 2700 E. The Academy of Music and Performing Arts at Hamilton High School presents the classic musical Guys and Dolls, opening February 1 and running for ten performances through February 17 at the Norm Pattiz Theater, 2955 S. For only four performances last weekend, the two-person musical DADDY LONG LEGS crawled in and out of the Majestic Theatre as Lyric Stage's third production of the 2017-2018 season. And although the production wasn't much larger than a postage stamp, it was a theatrical love letter full of charm.

The classic Frank Loesser musical is based on the stories of famed journalist and storyteller Damon Runyon and tells the story of gamblers looking for love and a floating dice game in the streets of New York's Broadway theatre district. The musical is produced by Placer Community Theater and runs weekends through August 5th.

Although Urbandale Community Theatre's dedication to producing classic shows may be safer than putting on contemporary pieces, a classic must be done in a fresh way in order to convince the audience that the show must be seen. This production remains fresh enough to receive that seal of approval and entertains in spite of certain scenes that slow down the action. I will say that I wish Urbandale Community Theatre would sometimes be riskier in its selection of show, but Guys & Dolls convinces me enough that classics are here to stay.

It is based on "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure" - two short stories by Damon Runyon, - and also borrows characters and plot elements from other Runyon stories - most notably "Pick the Winner". The 67th Music Circus season continues with the classic Leonard Bernstein musical comedy On The Town. This will be just the third time the Bernstein masterpiece has been produced at Music Circus, and its first appearance in the Wells Fargo Pavilion; previous Music Circus productions were in 1955 and 1961. Performances of On The Town are Tuesday, July 11 through Sunday, July 16 at the Wells Fargo Pavilion.

GUYS AND DOLLS is presented by Austin Playhouse as part of their 2016-2017 season. Directed by Don Toner and with musical direction by Susan Finnigan, this musical theatre gem tells the story of rolling the dice and taking a gamble on love. The musical, based on two short stories by Damon Runyon, originally premiered on Broadway in 1950 with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. It went on to win the Tony in 1950 for Best Musical and was later adapted into the 1955 film starring Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando.

Plain and Fancy will begin its 31st Anniversary season at The Round Barn Theatre at Amish Acres on Wednesday, May 24th at 8:00.  With over 3,700 performances before more than 355,000 patrons, it has become one of the longest running musicals anywhere.

The rain was pouring down outside and the aroma of fresh hot popcorn wafted through the Morrell Meeting Room as a sizeable crowd gathered on this gloomy Friday evening at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick to enjoy a new public film series, created by MSMT, hosted by Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark, and facilitated by Olivia Wenner, Group Sales and Outreach Manager. The project, part of MSMT's community outreach program, is entitled Film Fridays and offers free screenings in HD and surround sound of three movie musicals which will be produced in their stage versions this summer at MSMT. The movies are then followed by a talkback with Curt Dale Clark, moderated by Broadway World Maine Editor Carla Maria Verdino-Sullwold and - to add a little levity and spice - by a special trivia contest with prize of two complimentary tickets to MSMT's stage show for the winner.

The season opens September 29, 2017 with Dallas Divas and the Dallas Winds at Meyerson Symphony Center. Up next, from November 17-19, 2017 is the regional premiere of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame at The Majestic Theatre in Dallas. The season continues at The Majestic January 19-21, 2018 with the regional premiere of the new musical, Daddy Long Legs and concludes with Frank Loesser's classic Guys and Dolls at The Majestic June 8-10, 2018.

Cafe Carlyle will welcome back Broadway legend Chita Rivera, May 9-20. Last year's sold out Cafe Carlyle debut received raves reviews. An accomplished and versatile actress/singer/dancer, Chita Rivera has won two Tony Awards as Best Leading Actress in a Musical and has received eight additional Tony nominations for an exceptional 10 Tony nominations. At the Carlyle, Chita will be accompanied by her music director Michael Croiter and trio.

In preparation for their 2017 summer season at the Pickard Theatre, Maine State Music Theatre will host three Film Fridays at Brunswick's Curtis Memorial Library this May. Each screening will include a free showing of the movie versions of three of the theatre's summer main stage shows. Screenings will start at 6 PM and take place in the Morrell Meeting Room.

The renowned Harand Camp of the Theatre Arts, located on the beautiful campus of Carthage College in Kenosha, will hold its 63rd Season in Summer 2017.
