Award-Winning Performing Arts School Presents GUYS AND DOLLS

The Academy of Music and Performing Arts at Hamilton High School presents the classic musical Guys and Dolls, opening February 1 and running for ten performances through February 17 at the Norm Pattiz Theater, 2955 S. Robertson Blvd, LA 90017. Tickets and show times can be found on hamiltonmusic.org. Tickets are $10-$20.

Last year Hamilton's musical theater program was the recipient of 17 regional awards, including Outstanding Production and Best Youth Orchestra, as well as 30 nominations from the John Raitt Awards for Youth (JRAY) and National Youth Arts Awards (NYA). Performers from the musical were invited to showcase at both the JRAY and NYA Awards ceremonies.

The beloved musical Guys and Dolls, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and Book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, is based on the stories and characters of Damon Runyon. Damon Runyon was known for his humorous and sentimental tales of gamblers and gangsters, with names like Harry the Horse and Sky Masterson. The musical opened on Broadway in 1950, ran for 1,200 performances, and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. It has enjoyed several Broadway revivals and remains one of the most produced musicals of all time, inspiring a movie with Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra in 1955. The songs, Luck be a Lady, Bushel and a Peck, If I were a Bell, and Sue Me, among others, will leave the audience humming all the way out the door.

The Academy of Music and Performing Arts is one of the premier performing arts programs in the Los Angeles area. The students from AMPA have performed at the Oscars, Super Bowl, Special Olympics, Disney Concert Hall, Monterey Jazz Festival and numerous venues around Los Angeles. Scores of notable alumni appear on hamiltonmusic.org.
