BWW Reviews: Theatre Unchained Stages a Superb COMPANY

Small, professional theater companies produce theater on sparse budgets. There great contribution to city's culture includes producing plays at affordable prices and granting a variety of acting talent invaluable experience. Milwaukee's Unchained Theatre operates on a tiny budget in the heart of the city's Fifth Ward, the brainchild of James Dragolovich. In this intimate setting featuring approximately 75 seats, Stephen Sondheim's multiple Tony award winning musical with a book by George Furth Company creates magic forty years later.

New York Live Arts presents the Trisha Brown Dance Company (TBDC) in a week-long residency with performances of Son of Gone Fishin'; Opal Loop/Cloud Installation #72503; Solo Olos; and Rogues, today, April 8 - 12 at 7:30pm and April 13 at 3:00pm in New York Live Arts' Theater. In addition to the six performances, the residency will include open rehearsals, a master class, discussions and an archival exhibition in both the Live Arts building and online.

Cleveland Ballet Youth Company Makes Debut Performance With WHERE IT ALL BEGAN, 4/25

The newly established Cleveland Ballet Youth Company will make its debut performance with the program Where it All Began, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. in PlayhouseSquare's Hanna Theatre. It is no coincidence that this production will take place on the very stage where the former Cleveland Ballet hosted its first professional performances during the late 1970's. Founded by former Cleveland San Jose Ballet principal dancer, Gladisa Guadalupe, who also serves as the company's artistic director, Cleveland Ballet Youth Company is laying the ground work to re-introduce professional ballet to Cleveland audiences. Where it All Began will feature the entire company of Cleveland Ballet Youth Company along with several guest artists from the company's professional division. Musical accompaniment will come courtesy of the newly-founded Cleveland Ballet Orchestra.

The Sierra Stages production of the landmark musical comedy COMPANY by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth is now playing through March 23 at the historic Nevada Theatre in Nevada City. The original 1970 Broadway production of COMPANY was produced and directed by Harold Prince. The show received six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It has returned in two award-winning Broadway revivals, and was recently broadcast on PBS in a concert version with Neil Patrick Harris as Bobby. The show's many Sondheim standards include 'Company,' 'Side by Side by Side,' 'The Ladies Who Lunch,' 'Another Hundred People,' 'Barcelona,' and 'Being Alive.'

Moonbox Productions moves upstairs to the Roberts Studio Theatre at the Boston Center for the Arts for a large scale musical with Stephen Sondheim's COMPANY. Exploring friendship, love, commitment, and marriage through the eyes of a 35-year old bachelor, the vignettes resonate, but the songs really make the show worth seeing.

Company, the musical comedy about a single man turning 35, opened to a sold-out house Saturday February 8 at the White Theatre in Overland Park, Kan. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and from a book by George Furth, Director Barb Nichols assembled a talented cast of singers and dancers for the production. Music Director Martha Risser conducted a flawless performance by the accompanying orchestra.
