Albert present the Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, directed by Artistic Director Charles Newell, with Artistic Consultant Ron OJ Parson and Music Direction by Doug Peck. Porgy and Bess will run May 12-June 19, 2011 at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Avenue. Press Opening is Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 8PM.

Smuin Ballet Presents OH, INVERTED WORLD, Closes 2/27

Smuin Ballet presents the riveting Oh, Inverted World by acclaimed choreographer Trey McIntyre set to music by the popular indie-rock band The Shins in Walnut Creek (Feb 4-5), Carmel (Feb 18-19), and Mountain View (Feb 23-27).. This dynamic ballet the New York Times called 'striking' and 'remarkable' made its world premiere in San Francisco last October. The program will also include Bluegrass/ Slyde by Michael Smuin, an electric piece called 'riotous' by the SF Examiner and featuring the bluegrass twang of renowned banjoist Béla Fleck and master bassist Edgar Meyer. Rounding out the program is Smuin's classic ballet Brahms-Haydn Variations, a lyrical favorite filled with courtly references, called 'lovely' by the San Francisco Chronicle and 'impressive' by the New York Times. Theatre C will present Kyoung H. Park's (Sex and Hunger; Heartbreak/India; EST's Youngblood) disOriented, February 16-March 5 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 West 42nd Street). The production will be directed by Theatre C Artistic Director, Carlos Armesto (Binding; The Who's Tommy) and will feature Ariel Estrada* (Far East), Daniel K. Isaac* (Miss Electricity at La Jolla Playhouse; Balm In Gilead at Steppenwolf), Talynm Jinn Kim (LABrynth member, Developing Artists Theater Co.), Yanghee Lee, Julian Charles Leong (NY debut), Bert Matias (Snow Falling On Cedars), Amy Kim Waschke* (Somebody/Nobody at Arizona Theatre Company), and Virginia Wing* (Chu Chem). The creative team will include Costume Design by Carla Bellisio (Ghost Light; Southern Promises dir. Jose Zayas), Lighting Design by Jake DeGroot (Call Me Anne with Blue Coyote), Set Design by Adam Koch (Rooms: A Rock Romance; Title of Show), Sound Design by David Margolin Lawson (Kenneth Brannagh's Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; The Man Who Fell to Earth), and Choreography by Elisabetta Spuria (Tess: A New Rock Opera; The Who's Tommy).

Chuck Cooper, Daniel Breaker, Patina Miller, Sharon Washington, Daniel Gerroll, John Douglas Thompson and Sherry Boone have been cast in Lost in the Stars, the second Encores! production of the New York City Center season, running February 3 - 6 at City Center. Lost in the Stars has music by Kurt Weill and book and lyrics by Maxwell Anderson. It will be directed by Gary Griffin and choreographed by Chase Brock, with music direction by Rob Berman.
