Staircase Theatre is proud to announce our 4th edition of Movin' On Up: Staged Readings of intelligent, contemporary, raucous plays. It's a live reading of two, brand new, one-act plays- a celebration of emerging, local playwrights and an artistic investigation into the intersection and interaction of Vancouver's privileged and underprivileged citizens. This year's playwrights, Sabrina Auclair and Brahm Taylor hit close to home. The plays have received dramaturgy by Sherry MacDonald, will be directed by Mika Laulainen and will feature the acting talents of Tina Teeninga, Veenu Sandhu, Lara Amelie Abadir, Nicola Whitney-Griffiths, Corina Akeson and Xander Williams. The Orchard Project, a nationally renowned performance laboratory, today announced the six original, independent pilots selected to participate in its first annual Episodic Lab. More than 430 artists applied to the inaugural year of the Episodic Lab, which will help writers develop television and episodic content, working with accomplished showrunners and producers as mentors. The pioneer artists include playwrights, cartoonist, and screenwriters — and they are working on a diverse set of pilots, focusing on everything from the world of rap to the world of celebrity cruises. More than 30 artists and ensembles were selected for residencies this summer from nearly 600 theatre artists and companies who applied. The artists, teams, and companies will come to Saratoga Springs from across the United States and the world to accelerate projects at various stages of development. Throughout the program, the Orchard Project will also present a series of special events and cabarets for the public by OP residents and associated artists.
