Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival is set to round out its 30th Anniversary Season in Vanier Park, with the staging of Coriolanus on the Howard Family Stage in the Douglas Campbell Theatre. Sandi and Jenifer Toksvig have written a new family show dubbed, Christmas at the (Snow) Globe, and a series of candlelit ghost tales will include a new story from Jeanette Winterson. Other events running throughout the season include half-term storytelling festival, Half Term Tales at the Globe, with the new Children's Laureate Cressida Cowell, and a double bill of Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own and Three Guineas, marking the centenary year since the removal of the sex disqualification act. The Globe's flagship project for secondary and post-16 students, Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank, reaches its 14th year with Macbeth.

Now celebrating its 6th year presenting free Shakespeare in the streets of Park Slope, South Brooklyn Shakespeare (SBS) has announced its 2018 production: Five FREE performances of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale in Park Slope, with opening night serving as the main event of Park Slope Fifth Avenue's Summer Stroll #2 performed on 5th Avenue at 18th Street (July 28), plus four performances staged outside The Old Stone House (August 1-4). Shakespeare's Globe has announced the all-female cast for Morgan Lloyd Malcolm's new play Emilia, directed by Nicole Charles. The play charts the life of Emilia Bassano, the poet, mother and feminist who is thought to have inspired the 'Dark Lady' in Shakespeare's sonnets as well as the Emilia characters who appear in Othello, The Two Noble Kinsmen, The Winter's Tale and The Comedy of Errors. Emilia continues to thread her way through each of the plays in which she appears this summer season, excepting Emilia the Abbess in The Comedy of Errors.
After a successful run in Central Park, playing to over 4,000 people, performances resume on Wednesday, June 27 in Rockefeller Park/Battery Park City for New York Classical Theatre's critically acclaimed production of Romeo and Juliet, directed by the company's Founding Artistic Director Stephen Burdman. The production will play this week through June 30, before continuing on to The Battery, Carl Schurz Park, and Brooklyn Bridge Park for performances through July 29. Free For All, one of the capital's cherished annual traditions, will return this summer to Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), offering two weeks of free performances of the Company's 2016 production of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet.
