Melbourne Theatre Company today paid tribute to Zoe Caldwell who passed away on Monday 17 February 2020.

Tippet Rise Art Center today announced the full details of its fifth annual concert season, expanded this year to encompass two dozen wide-ranging programs from July 10 through August 29, 2020. Located on a 12,000-acre working ranch nestled at the foot of Montana's Beartooth Mountains, the art center celebrates the union of music, land, art, and architecture with large-scale sculptures and innovative architectural structures sited across its hills and rolling meadows and seven weeks of concerts performed in the acoustically enveloping Olivier Music Barn and outdoors under the big sky.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) will begin previews for the MOBILE UNIT's production of Shakespeare's MEASURE FOR MEASURE on Monday, November 18. Directed by LA Williams, the free sit-down run of MEASURE FOR MEASURE follows a three-week tour to the five boroughs that brought Shakespeare to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts. MEASURE FOR MEASURE will run through Sunday, December 8 with an official press opening on Friday, November 22.

American Ballet Theatre will celebrate its 80th Anniversary during the 2020 Spring season at the Metropolitan Opera House with the New York Premiere of Alexei Ratmansky's Of Love and Rage, an opening week devoted to both new and historic works from the Company's repertory, and the 40th Anniversary performances of Natalia Makarova's production of La Bayadère. The Spring season was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie.

Opening weekend of the Ojai Film Festival features a throwback tribute to the days of big studios and contract players. Pat Boone plans to attend the screening of his 1962 movie State Fair on Saturday November 2, at 7 pm, followed by a reception in his honor at 9 pm. On Sunday, November 3 at 10 am, the Ojai Film Festival will present him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Continuing its commitment to bringing free Shakespeare to the community and strengthening audience engagement with the arts, The Public Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director Oskar Eustis and Executive Director Patrick Willingham, will mount its MOBILE UNIT again this fall with a free three-week tour to venues across the city of Shakespeare's MEASURE FOR MEASURE, directed by LA Williams. The Mobile Unit's free tour (October 24-November 16) brings Shakespeare and other works to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts by visiting correctional facilities, homeless shelters, social service organizations, and other community organizations. Following the tour to the five boroughs, there will also be a free three-week engagement of MEASURE FOR MEASURE in The Public's Shiva Theater running Monday, November 18 through Sunday, December 8, with an official press opening on Friday, November 22.

Starting July 5, 2019, Tippet Rise Art Center will welcome the public for its fourth summer, offering tours of its monumental outdoor sculptures and architectural structures on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the winners of the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards, celebrating and rewarding the very best programmes and performances of 2018. The ceremony was hosted by Graham Norton at the Royal Festival Hall, London, and presenters included Andrew Scott, Billy Monger, Bradley & Barney Walsh, Danny Dyer, David Schwimmer, Julia Stiles, Kelsey Grammer and Sir Lenny Henry.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that Broadway veteran Elizabeth Josephine 'Jo' Sullivan Loesser passed away yesterday, April 28, from heart failure in her New York City Home. She was 91 years old.

One of Leonard Bernstein's most iconic compositions will be paired with the legendary Ludwig van Beethoven's most celebrated work in "Bernstein and Beethoven: Part I" on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. As a continued celebration of the Leonard Bernstein Centennial, world-renowned pianist Michael Brown will join Philharmonic Music Director and Conductor Piotr Gajewski and the National Philharmonic in performing Bernstein's Symphony No. 2 ("The Age of Anxiety"), a genre-defying work that combines elements of symphony, concerto, and program music and is inspired by the dramatic poem The Age of Anxiety by W.H. Auden. After an intermission, Gajewski will lead the Philharmonic in Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67. This timeless work is one of the most performed, recorded, adapted, and abused of all the works in Beethoven's canonical repertoire. A pre-concert lecture will take place between 6:45-7:15 p.m. From 7-7:30 p.m., families can explore orchestral instruments with Philharmonic musicians. The concert will feature a members-only encore question-and-answer. Ticket prices are $42-$78, and young people 7-17 are free. Strathmore is located at 5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda. It's sunset on a Sunday evening as I walk up a dusty pathway heading for the Horseman's Meadow at Serenbe Playhouse where a new production of Shenandoah, a musical adapted from the 1965 Jimmy Stewart film of the same name, plays through April 14.  Brilliant orange and purple light blankets the open field to my left.  To my right, a Civil War campsite moves into view.  Canvas tents soak up the last of the sun, and shadows fall on the faces of soldiers as they rest.  Here a few soldiers play poker.  There a soldier holds a live chicken, dinner for the weary troops.  Still farther on, a few tend to the tired horses. The camp is a spectacle that almost trumps nature's best spectacle, the dazzling sunset of an early spring.  But even the grand spectacle of the campsite pales in comparison to the battle that unfolds only moments later on the empty meadow. Smith and Cast Photo by BreeAnne Clowdus Men, some atop real horses, come from nowhere, and we are drenched in the chaotic sound of rapid artillery fire and the light of explosions - the remnants of shots fired from rifles and the fuses of cannons.  We are spectators at some battle where many men will die and where few will be able to articulate what it has all been for.  That's the Serenbe way of opening a Civil War play.  It's the classic Clowdus go-big-or-go-home welcome, and this play needs all the  help it can get to rise above its challenges, a heavy-handed script troubled by weakly drawn characters and a lackluster score.  Though the challenges are significant, visionary director Brian Clowdus, along with his creative team and talented cast, including a tentative American Idol-winner Taylor Hicks in his first principal acting role and Broadway's vibrant Rachel Potter, prove that the challenges are not insurmountable as they turn out an effective and memorable staging.

Tippet Rise Art Center, today announced full program details for its fourth concert season, to be presented over the course of seven weeks from July 12 to September 7, 2019. The season's artists will perform 23 recitals and chamber music concerts both indoors and out at the scenic art center, which is set on a 12,000-acre working ranch at the foot of Montana's Beartooth Mountains. Under the direction of newly appointed Artistic Advisor Pedja Muzijevic, the season will bring together some of the world's most sought-after musical artists along with rising stars, in programs that span more than four centuries of repertoire. 

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced the line-up today for the 2019 Free Shakespeare in the Park season, continuing a 57-year tradition of free theater in Central Park. Since 1962, over five million people have enjoyed more than 150 free productions of Shakespeare and other classical works and musicals at the Delacorte Theater. Conceived by founder Joseph Papp as a way to make great theater accessible to all, The Public's Free Shakespeare in the Park continues to be the bedrock of the Company's mission to increase access and engage the community.

The Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (BPYO), led by conductor Benjamin Zander, performs three works showcasing the mastery of the colors and virtuosity of a modern large orchestra on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Symphony Hall.

Tippet Rise Art Center today announced that it will soon break ground on the latest of the lovingly crafted, sculptural buildings that dot its landscape: a new pavilion designed by the world-renowned architect Francis Kere. The 1,900-square-foot gathering place is scheduled to open in summer 2019.

ABC celebrates the most wonderful time of the year with special '25 Days of Christmas' programming starting Dec. 1. The network joins Freeform, Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior in this fan-favorite TV event. The 'Kickoff to Christmas' begins in late November with perennial holiday treat 'Santa Claus is Comin' to Town.' The month of December is filled with special Christmas-themed episodes, the return of 'The Great Christmas Light Fight' and 'The Great American Baking Show: Holiday Edition,' and timeless animated classics and holiday films. The celebration continues after Christmas with New Year's-themed programming ringing in 2019.

The Odd Couple is the late Neil Simon's finest and funniest comedy, and a delicious romp for all. The play won five Tony nominations and four Tony Awards when it debuted on Broadway in 1965, and lived on in film and television adaptations for many years. The hilariously miss-matched apartment mates -divorced and slovenly Oscar and obsessively neat Felix (whose marriage has just dissolved) - are joined by Oscar's poker buddies and a tempting pair of sisters, Cecily and Gwendolyn, who live upstairs. As the NY Times review of the original production stated, 'There is scarcely a moment that is not hilarious.'

Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the independent, not-for-profit affiliate of SDC, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, today announced unique plans for its 2019 award evening, which will feature original choreographic pieces resulting from a special commissioning program, with the application period now open. SDCF also announced that Victoria Traube would receive a special 'Mr. Abbott' Award at the event, to be held March 25 at the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF).
