The Recording Academy has spoken out on writer and composer Joseph Brooks, following his May 22 death. The statement released today reads: 'Writer, composer, director, and producer Joseph Brooks reached audiences worldwide through his films, music, and famous advertising jingles. His eloquent songwriting earned him a Song Of The Year GRAMMY Award in 1977 for the hit 'You Light Up My Life,' from the film of the same name which he wrote, directed and produced. Though the song was recorded more than 30 years ago, its emotional impact continues to resonate to this day, and his talent and creativity will be remembered for years to come.'

Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that Patrick Cassidy is at work on a new piece about his father, the late musical actor Jack Cassidy, who died in an accidental fire at the age of 49. The younger Cassidy is developing a one-man show about Jack, with the help of some of Jack's old friends, including Hal Prince and John McMartin.
