Bergen County Players, one of America's longest-running little theater companies, is pleased to continue its 2019-2020 season with Christopher Durang's Tony Award-winning comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, a loving homage to playwright Anton Chekhov's themes of heartbreak and hope. Directed by Alyson Cohn, this hilarious Broadway sensation will be performed at the Little Firehouse Theatre in Oradell from March 21st through April 18th, 2020. Shows will be on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. Mint Theater Company Producing Artistic Director Jonathan Bank today announced the first cast member for the World Premiere pairing of Chekhov/Tolstoy: Love Stories, a program of short plays adapted from stories by two of the world's greatest authors, Anton Chekhov and Leo Tolstoy adapted for the stage by Miles Malleson (Conflict, Yours Unfaithfully).

Today, Monday 4th November 2019, Phoebe Eclair-Powell's play, SHED: EXPLODED VIEW, has been named the overall winner of the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting during a ceremony at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. As well as receiving £16,000, Eclair-Powell will work with the Royal Exchange Theatre's creative team to develop the script.

It's been a good year for Sharon D Clarke. In April, she finished starring in Caroline, or Change, for which she won the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Clarke and the show transfer to Broadway next year. In the summer, she was The Lady in Blues in the Night at the Kiln Theatre and she also starred as Linda Loman in Death of a Salesman at the Young Vic. Miller's play, directed by Marianne Elliott and Miranda Cromwell, transfers to the Piccadilly Theatre this autumn.

One of the most revered figures on the European jazz scene, Swiss trumpeter Franco Ambrosetti has maintained a strong affinity for the music since debuting as a leader in 1965 with A Jazz Portrait of Franco Ambrosetti. Now approaching his 78th birthday in December, Ambrosetti is still swinging after all these years, which is very much in evidence by his latest recording, Long Waves. An all-star session recorded in January, 2019 in New York City, Ambrosetti's 28th as a leader overall and second for the Swiss-based Unit Records features celebrated guitarist John Scofield, pianist Uri Caine, bassist Scott Colley and legendary drummer Jack DeJohnette.Together they interact on an intimate level, displaying remarkable chemistry on seven tracks. 'It was like a constant dialogue,' said Ambrosetti of the empathetic session. 'After one rehearsal, I felt like I had played with this group every night for the last five years.'

The Pinewood Bowl in Lincoln, Nebraska has been producing a summer musical every year since 1949. This July, the rural villagers of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will take the stage in Lincoln's outdoors. This family favorite with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Tim Rice and Howard Ashman, was adapted from the animated musical film. Nominated for a plethora of Tony Awards, it did take the win for Best Costumes. According to Claire Wilkinson who plays Belle, this local production will also feature some fantastic costuming. Claire shared her musical theatre background with me and offered her thoughts on Belle, the musical, and what it's like to rehearse at an outdoor venue.

It's become second-nature for many in the dance world to refer to Jerome Robbins as a second rate choreographer these days. Or should I say even 40 years ago?

William A. Reilly has been co-producer/ co-artistic director of Crown City Theatre going on 22 years. Crown has been located at St. Matthew's Church in NoHo for almost 12 years. April 1 the company must leave, as St Matthew's has received a grant to make the spaces a homeless shelter. Reilly sat down recently and talked about what the group will do as they look to the future. Close local spaces are being investigated as rentals until a new permanent space is relegated.

Irish Repertory Theatre announced today special events and programming for the month of March as part of the The Sean O'Casey Season, a comprehensive retrospective of the work of renowned Irish playwright Sean O'Casey, celebrating 30 years of Irish Repertory Theatre.

It starts off like a very funny 1950's sit-com with a gay twist and ends as a devastating plea for respect and self-acceptance.
