The 5th Avenue Theatre will present 'My Funny Valentine, Broadway's Greatest Love Songs,' on Saturday February 12 at 8 PM and Sunday February 13 at 3 PM. The program will present some of the greatest love songs ever created for Broadway. We'll sing about new love, old love, young love, love gone awry, and love that is here to stay.

Philips to Helm LOVE NEVER DIES in Australia; Creative Team Announced

The continuation of Broadway's longest-running musical The Phantom of the Opera, Love Never Dies will open in May 2011 at the Regent Theatre in London. The Australian production will not be a carbon copy of the London production, and instead will have new design and a new director. Simon Phillips (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) will direct, with Gabriela Tylesova behind the design. Guy Simpson, who worked with the Australian production of Phantom, will serve as music supervisor, and Graeme Murphy will choreograph.

Reps for LOVE NEVER DIES have confirmed to the New York Times this morning that indeed the production will not open on Broadway as planned in the Spring of 2011. Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that Al Pacino's star power has earned The Merchant of Venice the winners spot for the fall's highest advance generating show. The production, which opens at the Broadhurst Theatre on November 7, 2010, has reportedly taken in approximately $4M, beating out all incoming fall plays and musicals.

Stage and film star Haylie Duff (Napoleon Dynamite; Hairspray), Off Broadway vet Ashley Austin Morris (Die Mommie Die) officially joined the July cast of Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron's smash hit show Love, Loss, and What I Wore and they made their debut on June 30th. They join stars Penny Fuller (who was part of the last cast and will continue her role as ‘Gingy'), Sharon Lawrence ('NYPD Blue') and Myra Lucretia Taylor (Broadway's Nine). The five women began their run on Wednesday, June 30 and continue through Sunday, July 25.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the cast album for LOVE NEVER DIES premiered on the UK National charts at Number 10, the production announced today. Of those international markets where the album has been released it has also charted well, such as in Greece (Number 1), Taiwan (Number 14), New Zealand (Number 8) and Denmark (Number 15). Today, Billboard reports that the LOVE NEVER DIES album is the Number 1 selling cast album of the week, beating out staples Wicked and Jersey Boys in the top spot.
