In 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, plump teenager Tracy Turnblad's dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight. She then launches a campaign to integrate the show. Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960s.

The Palm Springs Cultural Center is bringing America's original Glee Club - The Young Americans - back to Palm Springs - with an all-new song and dance extravaganza designed to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the group's founding in 1962. Two performances, featuring the latest generation of Young Americans, and some Young Americans alumni, will take place at the Palm Springs High School Auditorium tonight, May 12th and tomorrow, May 13th.
