'Phone rings, door chimes, in comes company.' This is how the title song from Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's musical, COMPANY, begins. This musical is about marriage and commitment, and it is set in New York City. COMPANY is considered one of the more challenging musicals for the cast, crew and orchestra, but if it is done well it provides for a highly enjoyable evening of theatrical entertainment. Bucks County Playhouse produces an entertaining production of COMPANY, with a strong cast.

Today in 1970, Company opened at the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre), where it ran for 705 perfrmances. Company is a musical comedy based on a book by George Furth with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The original production was nominated for a record-setting fourteen Tony Awards and won six. Originally entitled Threes, its plot revolves around Bobby (a single man unable to commit fully to a steady relationship, let alone marriage), the five married couples who are his best friends, and his three girlfriends. Unlike most book musicals, which follow a clearly delineated plot, Company is a concept musical composed of short vignettes, presented in no particular chronological order, linked by a celebration for Bobby's 35th birthday.

Lanford Wilson's 'Talley Trilogy' continues on the Aurora Theatre Company main stage with FIFTH OF JULY. Aurora Artistic Director Tom Ross (A Bright New Boise, This Is How It Goes, Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance, The Shape of Things) helms FIFTH OF JULY, featuring Craig Marker (The Shape of Things, The Persians), Elizabeth Benedict, John Girot, Jennifer Le Blanc, Oceana Ortiz, Harold Pierce, Josh Schell, and Nanci Zoppi. Ann Arbor's relationship with Trisha Brown pre-dates the 1970 founding of Trisha Brown Dance Company; it was 1965 when Trisha Brown premiered 'Motor,' a work that involved Miss Brown, a Volkswagen Beetle, and a skateboard in the Maynard Street Parking Garage as part of the ONCE Festival. Trisha Brown's collaboration with contemporary visual art giants can not be understated, either: this tour showcases works with significant components created by Robert Rauschenberg, Donald Judd, Robert Ashley, and Laurie Anderson. This is an artist who made her mark pushing boundaries, an artist that we couldn't be prouder to present.
