During this time when productions all over the world have been put on pause, we are coming together to celebrate plays that have left their mark on theater history. This week we will be focusing on the plays of Anton Chekhov. Today's play, The Seagull!

Rehearsals have begun for Theater Latté Da's production of LA BOHÈME, the beloved Puccini opera re-imagined by Peter Rothstein and orchestrator Joseph Schlefke. The production brings together rising stars in the opera world along with favorite performers from the Twin Cities music scene. Among the top 5 operas performed around the globe, LA BOHÈME features music by Giacomo Puccini and libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. The production is directed by Theater Latté Da Artistic Director Peter Rothstein [1] with Music Direction by Eric McEnaney and features a new orchestration by Joseph Schlefke.

Henderson, and starring Johnnie Hobbs, Jr., the production begins previews on January 7, opens January 14, and continues through February 9.

Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group has announced that acclaimed writer, actor, and singer Rody Vera will join the cast of the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical THE BAND'S VISIT as Tewfiq. THE BAND'S VISIT opens on March 13 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City.

New Line Theatre, "the bad boy of musical theatre," has announced casting for its 29th season of adult, alternative musical theatre, which opens with the return of the wild, comic rock musical CRY-BABY,  based on the iconic John Waters film, a show which New Line first produced in 2012 in its American regional premiere, running Sept. 26-Oct. 19, 2019. The season continues with the electrifying new rock musical fresh from Broadway, in its regional premiere, HEAD OVER HEELS, a high-energy, adult romp about gender and sexuality, based on a 16th-century novel and using the songs of the 80s rock band The Go-Go's, running March 5-28, 2020. And the season closes with the return of one of New Line's biggest hits, which the New Liners first presented in 2007, the pitch dark satire URINETOWN, the hilarious, outrageous fable of greed, corruption, love, revolution, and urination, running June 4-27, 2020.

What makes a Broadway theatre? Technically any venue with 500 seats or more, located along Broadway in New York City's Theatre District is a Broadway theatre, and the art that is produced in these special places is widely considered the highest form of theatrical entertainment in the world. Today, forty-one theatres are technically Broadway houses, each with their own rich history. Boston Landmarks Orchestra (LO) under the direction of Music Director Christopher Wilkins, and Executive Director Jo Frances Meyer, announces its 2019 season of free concerts at the DCR's Hatch Memorial Shell on the Esplanade. The 2018-19 Hoff-Barthelson Music School Faculty Concert Series concludes on Friday, March 8, 2019, at 7:30 pm with "Women Composers Over the Centuries" in recognition of Women's History Month. The concert takes place at the School, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale.

In the 23 years since Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece burst onto the scene, its music has made an indelible impression on pop culture, finding a place on the playlists of more that just lovers of Broadway. Tonight, FOX will air their third live musical production. Following in the footsteps of Grease and A Christmas Story, the network will be presenting Jonathan Larson's Rent, a rock musical that is loosely based on Giacomo Puccini's 1896 opera, La boheme. The story follows a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in New York City's East Village in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

With a mix of new and traditional takes on opera, Seattle Opera unveils a 2019/20 Season that offers something for everyone. Audiences will experience new-to-Seattle productions of Rigoletto, Cinderella, and Eugene Onegin; the company premiere of Charlie Parker's Yardbird; and the return of a beloved classic, La boh me.

The Case Western Reserve University/Cleveland Play House MFA Acting Program is proud to begin their season with a modern reimagining of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull. Chekhov's classic play about artistic rebellion, translated by Paul Schmidt, will star the MFA Class of 2020 and guests. Director Sarah Wansley's staging will shed light on the show's poetic realism. Press opening will be on October 9th at the Helen Theatre in Playhouse Square and the show will run from October 10th-October 20th. 

Since 2015, Adelphi University has given creators an opportunity to showcase their work to new audiences through the Larson Legacy Concert Series. On Sunday, September 23, Jonathan Larson Grant winner Jay Adana will present pieces from her new musical The Loophole in the OlmstedTheatre at the Adelphi Performing Arts Center (PAC), One South Ave, Garden City, New York.

Obie Award winner Metropolitan Playhouse brings Philip Barry's first Broadway play, 'You and I' to the stage for its first New York revival in 95 years.   The limited run from September 7 to October 7, 2018, will be at the Playhouse home at 220 E 4th Street.
