Hot on the heels of the record-breaking, critically hailed Satchmo at the Waldorf, Mosaic Theater Company of DC's Season Two continues with Kirsten Greenidge's riotous, Obie Award-winning MILK LIKE SUGAR (November 2 - 27, 2016), under the direction of Mosaic Theater's Jennifer L. Nelson (The Gospel of Lovingkindness). The play, Mosaic's second DC premiere this season, is a rousing story about young women coming of age in a time when issues of acceptance, mentorship, and materialism challenge the dreams and ambitious of so many teens. It is the first of three plays in Mosaic's 2016-17 season to highlight issues affecting young urban teens and millennials, to be followed by the DC premiere of Philip Dawkins' intergenerational LGBTQ comedy Charm, and the world premiere of Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm's Hooded: Or Being Black for Dummies.

From Freedom Studios, the producers of the acclaimed Brief Encounters at Bradford Interchange, Home Sweet Home and The Mill - The City of Dreams comes North Country. Bradford playwright Tajinder Singh Hayer's new work explores the lives of three young people from Bradford as they deal with the aftermath of a devastating plague; over the next forty years, they reshape themselves and their communities as the play asks 'What do you hold onto when your whole world has changed?'

La Jolla Playhouse announces the cast and creative team for its world-premiere production of Miss You Like Hell, book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes (In the Heights, Water by the Spoonful), music and lyrics by acclaimed singer/songwriter Erin McKeown, directed by Lear deBessonet (Public Theatre's The Odyssey) and choreographed by Danny Mefford (Broadway's Fun Home). Scottish writer Ali Smith is best known for her short stories and novels, including three books shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.  Her 2005 play for Shell Connections, Just, offers a delightful example of Theatre of the Absurd that certainly deserves to be as well known as her other literary endeavours.  In this delicious satire, a young woman discovers a dead body behind a bus stop, stabbed in the back with an umbrella.  Moving to take a closer look, she is accosted by a police officer who accuses her of the murder.  Soon enough, she is condemned by the local townspeople, and the sinister Mrs Wright, the blindfolded arbiter of justice, as the story begins to take on a darker turn.

'We do art because of what it does for us - how it transforms us,' actor Gregg Goodbrod states with quiet conviction. 'Being an actor helps me to understand other people and see their lives and my own from a different perspective. That's why doing a play like Ghost becomes a journey that really resonates for me.' Goodbrod is speaking about his emotionally and physically demanding role as Sam Wheat in the new chamber version of the original 1990 movie and 2011 stage musical, which is currently playing at Maine State Music Theatre. He uses an example of the scene in which Sam, now a ghost, watches his beloved Molly sort through his belongs. 'I am really very Method as an actor, so I try to get into it completely and feel the actual feelings. And as I am watching Liz [Shivener] play this scene, it suddenly hits me that all these things are not what are important. If I were go, I know it is the love that I would miss. That's why I am an actor - so I can take these journeys and learn new lessons.'

Having opened Off-Broadway in 2005, The Great American Trailer Park Musical has been performed across the US, Australia and Europe. It's had a bit of a hiatus over the last couple of years but Garry Lake and Waterloo East Theatre have brought the show to London where it is currently enjoying a limited run. BWW:UK recently caught up with cast member Jemma Alexander to talk about the show.

PETER PAN, one of the most crowd-pleasing shows ever presented at Yorktown Stage, is about to fly high once more, entertaining audiences for the start of the holiday season. The perennial family favorite, which has played in front of 10,000 people at this venue in recent years, will have weekend matinee and evening performances during Thanksgiving week of Nov. 21-29.

Dubbed as 'the first Asian musical of its kind' to hold regular performances at the New Victory Theatre on Off-Broadway from 2003 to 2005, COOKIN' NANTA's kitchen antics reinvigorate its 2015 bid to infiltrate more Asian markets. COOKIN' NANTA makes a limited run at The Theatre in Solaire Resort and Casino from Tuesday, November 10, through Sunday, November 15.

'[Thank you] to an incredible cast of British and American actors who make the Atlantic look like a little creek you can just kind of pop across,' said Dame Helen Mirren upon receiving her 2015 Tony Award. The stage and screen star reprised her critically-acclaimed performance in THE AUDIENCE after a West End run in 2013, and she was just one of many to 'pop across' an ocean for a stab at Broadway.  An unprecedented amount of British talent took over Broadway last year, bringing us such productions as THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME, WOLF HALL: PARTS 1 & 2, and SKYLIGHT.   It doesn't seem like the trend is ending anytime soon. This fall, Broadway will welcome a slew of British actors- some of whom will be making their US stage debuts in incoming productions. And it's not just performers. We're getting some complete British imports in shows like A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE and KING CHARLES III. Below, we're taking a moment to shine a spotlight on this season's British imports.

Harold Pinter was born in Hackney, in London's East End, in October of 1930. An only child, he was born to Jewish parents of very moderate means; his father, a tailor, and his mother, a homemaker, were first-generation descendants of Eastern European immigrants. Like many of his contemporaries, Pinter's childhood was shaped by the onslaught of World War II; at the age of nine, he was evacuated from London through Operation Pied Piper and resettled in a town in Cornwall. The sense of isolation he felt in Cornwall would come to influence his work, as would the changed London to which he returned during the Blitz, where he was witness to, as his 2008 Guardianobituary put it, 'the dramatic nature of wartime life - the palpable fear, the sexual desperation, the genuine sense that everything could end tomorrow.'
