Shimmering with love and light, this unique, inventive musical is one of the most acclaimed shows of our time. Inspired by the life and work of enigmatic 19th century impressionist painter Georges Seurat, this Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece explores the complexity of life and the art of understanding it. Randy Harrison and Erin Mackey to Paint a Picture in Guthrie's SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE

The Guthrie Theater has announced casting for the theater's summer musical, Sunday in the Park with George. Leading the cast will be Randy Harrison (Guthrie: The Glass Menagerie) who will play French pointillist painter George Seurat, a role originated by Mandy Patinkin in the 1984 Broadway production, and Erin Mackey (Guthrie: South Pacific) who will play Seurat's lover and model, Dot, a role originated by Bernadette Peters.

Here's how I slept with dozens of guys and gals on Wednesday, April 19 ... to get bargain tickets to 'Sunday in the Park With George.' It's called 'rush,' and many Broadway shows offer discounted seats around $40-$50 (a pittance compared to the regular ducats that run $150 and up). They're sold as soon as the box office opens at 10 a.m., so the early bird gets the rush. At many shows, getting in line by 7 a.m. often does the trick.

Directed by Artistic Director Peter DuBois, with Music Direction by Eric Stern, it features a large and talented ensemble with a mix of Boston theater artists and those with Broadway credits. Jenni Barber is a delight as Dot/Marie, but Adam Chanler-Berat does not match her intensity as George. The production looks great, sounds good, but feels less filling than a Sondheim show should.

The Public's TROILUS AND CRESSIDA Opens Tonight at Shakespeare in the Park

The Public Theater recently announced that Louis Cancelmi, last seen as Caliban in the Shakespeare in the Park production of The Tempest, had stepped into the company of Troilus and Cressida as Achilles, replacing David Harbour, who suffered an injury during previews and will be unable to complete the run. The play celebrates its opening tonight, August 9, after a short delay.
