You may have seen Meryl Streep play Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady," but have you seen Whidbey Telecom's George Henny play Hannibal in "Silence of the Hobbits?" How about local artist Dave Gignac play Felicia Jollygoodfellow in "Priscilla Queen of the Desert?"

Probably not, you say.

Well, move over Oscars, the first annual Clyde Award nominees will be announced this week with an awards gala, "Clyde Meets Oscar."

On Feb. 26, 2012, a collection of locally-produced, professional 2-minute movie spoofs will be shown on the big screen at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts during the uninterrupted telecast of The 84th Academy Awards.

As part of a fundraiser for the Center, The Clyde Awards, presented by Lynn and Blake Willeford, of the namesake beloved vintage theatre, will recognize the Bests of our Bests for these local shorts. With Billy Crystal already booked for The Oscars, local celebrity and movie lover Sue Frause will emcee the evening focused on glitz and glamour–Langleywood style. Not to mention shameless voting based on payoffs, bribes, hilarity and back room antics.

Want a movie or actor to win? Then shell out the cash. Simple as that. The nominees who raise the most dollars win, and it's all to benefit WICA.

In addition to the The Clydes and Oscars, the evening will include red carpet entries, bright lights and paparazzi. Local chefs will serve "Short Take Plates;" wine and beer will be available for purchase.

Seats cost $25 and include tasting tickets, the uninterrupted telecast and an evening of fun. Bring your voting bucks and get ready to donate to your favorite film and actors. As the Iron Lady may say, "Come as tarted up as you wish," and get ready to laugh with fellow movie lovers. Sue Frause will be awarding the best leading man and leading lady costumes, best dressed couples and the person with the best thrift store ensemble. The red carpet will be rolled out at 4:30 p.m. when the doors open so don't miss your chance at a grand entrance.
